Topic: Hey everyone

I just managed to get Apache, MySQL and PHP working. I'm hosting it on my home computer although it's not really meant for use by more than about 5 people. My upload limit speed is about 16kb/sec or so.

I'm still working on it to get it better. Let me know what you guys think.

cygnus,

Just created a database called 'Bert' on your server smile

Before you open up your box to the world, you should secure certain apps. By now we can figure out what people put on their systems and just go about keying in urls until we get a hit.

Just a heads up.

Re: Hey everyone

lol I guess I really should secure stuff.

What are some things I can do?

That's really outside the scope of this forum.

I've been running my own websites for 5 years now, and I'm still learning new things everyday. I haven't found a good one stop site that will give you step by step instructions, there are some books though. The difficulty lies in all the different ways you can configure your web server, Windows, Linux or BSD, Apache, MySQL and PHP versions, and of course the different apps you decide to put up.

All I can say is before you open up your computer to the world, do some reading, start locking down the Operating System and work from there.
