Topic: Getting mail to work

I've got punbb rocking away working just fine, so now I wanted to get email going. Now I've got courier-mta installed (on arch linux if it helps). From what I gathered, punbb would be able to find the local mailserver and just go nuts - but I can't send mail. And I don't know much about sending mail. Can anyone help me a bit with this?

PunBB uses PHP's mail function or SMTP if you enter the information: does PHP know about your mail server?
