Topic: sendmail or smtp host

hi my host does not support the mail() function so i am looking for either a conversion to sendmail or work smtp host for punbb because i have tried many smtp servers and i keep getting this error

An error was encountered
Error: Couldn't get mail server response codes. Please contact the forum administrator..

at the moment it is set to google. i have tried tiscali, breathe, lycos, aol and they are all comeing up with erros some are error number 13 dont know what that means

That error indicates the server isn't responding.
Keep in mind that PunBB doesn't support SMTP servers which require SSL (like Gmail).
And I'd need to see the other errors to figure out anything from them

ok i have now changed it to the breathe smtp server and i am getting
An error was encountered
Error: Could not connect to smtp host "smtp.breathe.com" (13) (Permission denied). 
but i just copyed everthing exactly out of outlook

same with tiscali: An error was encountered
Error: Could not connect to smtp host "smtp.tiscali.co.uk" (13) (Permission denied). 
and i copyed them out of outlook

and the list goes on

could somebody please provide me with a smtp server that works with punbb please

Many SMTP servers work, I've personally never had an issue
And it looks like that's a restriction by your host as well: the permission denied on connect is something you need to ask them about

is there any way i could use sendmail because i noticed that was installed on the server

also can you find one that deffently does work so i can try it to see please

If your host restricts mail, they probably don't want you using sendmail

Sorry but we do not allow external SMTP servers to be used for domains/subdomains hosted on our servers.

If your host restricts mail, they probably don't want you using sendmail, since the mail function simply acts as a wrapper.

well how do i disable the emailing parts of punbb

Turn off the features that require email that you have enabled?

how do i disable the send email link in profile.php

Edit register.php/profile.php to remove the option to choose email settings (make the setting that's used for new users 2). Then, set that setting for all existing users.
