Topic: Thank You MOD

I want to kindly request a ThankYou MOD for PunBB. There should be a html "Thank you" link below each post. Guests, Members, Mods and Admins (all) should be able to click those thank you links below each post if they like the post and want to show their appreciation. If Guests click the link for a post, it should show below that post: "X Guest(s) say(s): Thank you." X is the number of guests who have clicked thanks for that particular post. And if members or mods or admin click the Thank you link, it should show their names, "Username1, Username2... say(s): Thank you." where username1, username2 etc. are the usernames of the logged in members who click thank you for that post.

Both vBulletin and Phpbb have a Thank You mod and I found previously that it is greatly used by the forum members. It was one of the most popular MODs I had. They normally don't want to type a reply to a post but still they say thank you on so many posts. It is very encouraging to the posters also and promotes more participation and gives a community feeling. Can anyone kindly design this MOD? Thank you.

Thanks so much Matt. Both the Vb and Phpbb Thank You mods have Thank You for each post not just first post but I think they don't have Thank You link for Guests. I think Thank You link for Guests also would be great as Guests can also anonymously show their appreciation to the posters.

One thing for this is that it should add minimum queries to the viewtopic page since it has many posts.  vB Thanks mod is Ajax without page load but since PunBB is so fast, a page load on clicking Thank You would be as instant as ajax. So it would not matter imo. smile

Can you give some rough ETA for this?

Thanks so much Matt. Please can you add Thank You for each post. Then it would be perfect. A topic has many posts with different authors and point of views. It would be great to show our appreciation individually to each of those authors who give valuable input.

erm... tbh if you want to show appereation, use the repputation mod. not a thank you mod, which does the same thing for each post.

so inset of giving them a thanks you give them rep smile  seems like a better idea wink

any improvements.

Im working on making it so the creator can chose if they want the "thanks" mod enabled smile

Just done exaclty what it told me in the read me and it worked. Why dint it work for you?

You have to have 1 "thank" for it to show up.
The creator cannot thank.
Names are formated ( with , )
Guests cant see it at the moment.
can only "thank" once.
and all thanks will be gone when a topic is removed.
Thanks will stay with the topic aslong as it always has the same ID.
"1 person is thankfull" turns into "X people are grateful" when more than one name

"Report | Delete | Edit | Quote | Say thanks"

Allouw Thanks to be given in topics if the creator wants.

ohh..I didn't realize that...that explains a lot.

btw: Can I suggest something. Instead of it creating a whole new block. Why not just add it below the Registered or post date. For example:

Thanks: 3
Thanked 18 times in 10 posts

thats for each user though, isnt it? I have done this for posts. And the reason for a block. is when you might get over 100 members thanking it will look rather messy any other way..

Like i said erlier if your going to "thank" users for each post you may aswell use the reputation mod and re-word it lol.

The reputation mod is not exactly useful or the same like the thank you mod because it does not show who has thanked you for a specific post. Thank you is much more personal way to say it than just increasing the reputation of another user by some points which is quite abstract.

Thanks. I mean it does not show that below the post itself like the Thank You mods for vB and Phpbb do. One has to go to the reputation page to see it. And people would not not even know that the poster's reputation was increased for the post they are reading unless they check the reputation page which is a diversion while browsing the viewtopics.

guests can see who has given thanks, but they cant give it becuase though it is only samll they can abuse it... And if its set only to members, it would give them another reason to join.


why dont i just edit the reputation mod, and where it has the topic, have all the standard rep code, and then ill add in X Thanks for this post. But not listing names
