Topic: Feature Request for SEF URLs - "Folder Based (Fancy)"

"Folder Based (Fancy)" could have http://example.com/forum/test-forum/ or http://example.com/forum/1-test-forum/ rather than http://example.com/forum/1/. The "File Based" option has this available, why can't the "Folder Based" option have it too?

Personally, I do not see the point in having the forum ID in the URL at all so I would prefer "/test-forum" rather than "/1-test-forum".

Re: Feature Request for SEF URLs - "Folder Based (Fancy)"

The point? The point is that we're able to uniquely identify the forum. Otherwise, we need to make a table of slugs and the pages they link to, deal with duplicate names, etc. Speed goes down and everything becomes more complicated.

Re: Feature Request for SEF URLs - "Folder Based (Fancy)"

So what about having http://example.com/forum/1-test-forum/?

Re: Feature Request for SEF URLs - "Folder Based (Fancy)"

Fancy folders? It's just a couple small changes to the regular folder based scheme, so I'll add it (there's no reason not to as far as I can tell, and one of the other developers can revert it if they come up with a reason).
Added.

Thank you very much big_smile I know it's nothing 'fancy' as such, but the File Based one was called 'Fancy', so I was just following suit smile

Forum name and topic are prefixed with a hyphen in the  URL. Is the hyphen necessary?

Yes, otherwise hell would break loose if someone posted a topic with the subject "666 - The group that changed my life forever".

Re: Feature Request for SEF URLs - "Folder Based (Fancy)"

intedinmamma: qubertman means that sef_friendly prefixes it with a -, even in the folder based scheme.
It is something we'll want to remove, so I'll look into it.
