Topic: Advice on features and integration

We are developing a member based site in php5

We would like to provide access to a forum as a part of the member services/functionality.

We would like to use our existing user database to control entry into the forum (as opposed to the PunBB user database). This way people can login to our site via our already established front end and not have to login again to PunBB. We have done something similar to this before with phpBB but it was a real nightmare.

My question is - not knowing the framework of this cms too well - how hard do you think this would be with punbb?

Also - we need to be able to set up private discussion boards where only certain members can see or participate in them - is this punBB functionality?

You can limit group access to forums.

With regards to the integration, there is a thread at the moment on the Flux site, (albeit for 1.2, though the basics are the same for 1.3), which may be of use:
