Topic: problems with the install form

now ive uploaded all the files from the 'upload' folder to my website in the correct order theyre meant to be. i can get to the punBB install form on my website, but when i reach the field that says 'Database server hostname' i dont know what to do. i tried filling in my own ip address, that didnt work though. it comes up with the error

Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. Can't connect to MySQL server on '169.254.81.46' (115).

what am i supposed to do?

database server hostname is not your ip...
you must be sure tou have mysql suport on your server and if it's on the same server with your site you must write there localhost

in your hostname write localhost

well you need this info:

- your username to the sql
- your password to the sql
- a database to the sql

You fill those up and leave blank the prefix

im havin problems with the HTTP_REFERER now, read the sticky in troubleshooting, come on man, youre a miracle worker, can u help me on that prt?

Oh, and don't use a trailing / (ie: if the web address is http://www.test.com/punbb/index.php use http://www.test.com/punbb as your base URL

ok done thanks...

my forums hav been up and runnin for about 2 hours now, but i just recently got this error right now:

An error was encountered
Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. Host 'mybesthost.com' is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'. 

it wont let me in, it just keeps coming up with that error, and same for any1 else

well maybe your host dosen't allow that many connection to the database. I don't know anything else, since i never experineced this before..

i'd wait for a while and email your host they should be able to sort it out

i'm guessing its messed up since so many free users have messed up installs and mysql probably as some built in thing to stop connecting to a host if it fails a certain number of times

I think you should get a paid server if you want quallity services.
But if you only want to experiment with forums, sites and so on, i think you could install apache for windows, with php and mysql support on your computer.

Belive me i like better to configure my forum/site first on my computer and then just upload it onto the server.

http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php - windows testing server extremely easy to setup you don't need to change any config and it just works wink
