Topic: can admin. add users when register disabled?

The subject line pretty much gets to the point of the question, but let me be a bit less terse about it.

I am setting up forums for students in my college classes.  I want the forums to be closed to new registrations, but I want to be able to add and remove students myself (as administrator).  I haven't found any way to do that, other than to turn public registrations on, register everyone that way, then turn it back off.  Is there a way to add users from within the admin. account, without having to turn public registrations on?

use the user management plugin that was released. It allows you to deal with all of that.

Thanks -- that's what I needed.  I was thrown off in the description by the first part, about pruning (if I keep the kind of control I described, pruning like that shouldn't be much of an issue).
