Topic: News and such on first page, possible?

I decided to edit my question.

Lets say I install the forum in my root-folder making it the start page of my site. Is it possible to let the start-page include news with maybe articles written in other pages, such as a news page? Let me demonstrate with a few images:

There's an extension called portal or mini portal (i don't remember exactly), take a look.
