Topic: Help Feature for main forum menu

I have searched through all of the threads and apologise if I have missed a related topic.

I am trying to start a forum for a fairly non-computer literate market and have come across one issue in an otherwise outstanding board. There is no Help (instructions) feature for new users to look at.

Is this available (and I'm just missing it), in development or not an option at all.

Any feedback would be gratly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

Do you mean like how to use a forum?

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

Yip, I know it sounds lame but this is for a green house gas community that barely knows how to use e-mail.

Ok, for now you can start a thread and make it sticky, like this:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php … mp;t=52382

Include links, your own how-tos, etc.

For 1.2, I'll see what I can put together for a new user type of guide.

This was suggested many moons ago and I posted agreeing with the suggestion for the same reasons.

I still think its a good idea if only as a mod. Actually I think there is a FAQ mod around here somewhere

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

I agree. We need some kind of general usage documentation. Hmm.

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

What about a very simply FAQ system for general usage.
A language file with faq1 , answer1 etc
A simply php faq file which outputs the FAQ as a plain and easily printed page. Multilingual and easily added to.

How would you make it multilingual?

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

Sorry. Wrong word. I just meant it could be easily translated along with the other language files.

Re: Help Feature for main forum menu

The big problem is actually writing it. The details regarding localisation and linking to it and stuff like that can be sorted out later.

I'll start putting a newbie guide together:
What is a forum?
What is a topic?
How do you reply?
What is LOL, IMHO, WTF?

etc...

How do I find my way around
- basic navigation guide
How do I start a topic
How do I reply to a post
How do I change my post
How do I remove a post I made by mistake
How do I find posts on a particular subject
How do I display the board in a different language
How can I change the way the board looks
I have slow connection, can I improve the boards speed.
How do I send an email to another member

I'm sure hcgtv will come up with something impressive big_smile

I'll leave it up for a few days, before M$ realizes it.

The original site that had that page up was sued by Billy.
