What are some things I can do?

That's really outside the scope of this forum.

I've been running my own websites for 5 years now, and I'm still learning new things everyday. I haven't found a good one stop site that will give you step by step instructions, there are some books though. The difficulty lies in all the different ways you can configure your web server, Windows, Linux or BSD, Apache, MySQL and PHP versions, and of course the different apps you decide to put up.

All I can say is before you open up your computer to the world, do some reading, start locking down the Operating System and work from there.

cygnus,

Just created a database called 'Bert' on your server smile

Before you open up your box to the world, you should secure certain apps. By now we can figure out what people put on their systems and just go about keying in urls until we get a hit.

Just a heads up.

I use phpMyAdmin, also check the downloads page on PunBB for a couple of plugins.

What works best is what works best for you.

I like lean and mean, so I look at CMS's that have small code bases that just do what I need from them. That doesn't leave me with many choices but that's my own personal preference. Others want more bells and whistles, so they go towards Joomla!, Drupal, etc.

Rather than get into a what CMS is better discussion, let's talk about the future of PunBB. After 1.3 comes out, extensions will make it very simple to use PunBB for many things within the scope of your site. Want to use the forum for commenting, we'll have you covered. Want to authenticate against PunBB, that's also in the cards. Want to make the forum look like your site, Paul is making this possible.

I'm very excited about the future, the possibilities are doable.

No problem, running so many sites like I do, rewrite comes in handy when I decide to move things around.

Try this:

RedirectMatch 301 ^/app/(.*)$ http://app.website.tld/$1

Polo,

PunBB is a minimalistic forum, it doesn't aim to be another vBulletin.

With PunBB 1.3, an extension system will be put in place that will allow for anyone to add functionality to the core. This should pretty much help cover all the bases when it comes to wanting feature 'X'.

So a roadmap going past 1.3 would be predicated on how well the extension system handles itself. What I see post 1.3 is a further tweaking of the extension and the templating systems, to allow for PunBB to be easily extended and styled to one's liking.

Now that we have more developers on board, a proper roadmap will come after 1.3 is released, right now we're all busy getting it out the door.

Please visit http://dev.punbb.org/, don't tell anyone smile

frank0051,

We're planning on putting up a beta of PunBB 1.3 for all to play with soon but we're not at that stage as of yet.

For now, you can go to: http://dev.punbb.org/ and see what we're up to.

I believe pun_include defaults to using the /include/user directory.

I went so far as to uninstall and reinstall Apache and PHP, making sure that mysql.so was enabled in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini.

The extension would be mysqli.so, but Ubuntu should of done this for you.

I'm running Debian Etch:
Apache/2.2.3
PHP/5.2.0-7
MySQL/5.0.30

Damn it's good to see Debian on the leading edge wink

I would have preferred it if they went the same path as Microsoft with their Xbox 360 and sold the player as an addon, thus reducing the price of the console itself.

I agree, forcing Blu-Ray on us is stupid.

I have an HDTV LCD TV and though it only goes up to 1080i, it's more than sufficient for my needs. Whatever broadcasts in High Defnition that there are, not that many at present, they look great. Sports are better served at 720p, or else you get jaggies on screen. In the states, ESPN has really got it together in this regard.

I spent months on the AVSforum and decided that 1080p wasn't worth the jump in price. I've seen a Blu-Ray disk in action at Best Buy and honestly, I don't see it worth 1000's for the pleasure.

CodeXP, it's a very confusing time in the console wars and I do understand what you're saying. I may hold off for a while on getting a new console, my PS2 is doing just fine for now.

Just saw screenshots of Yellow Dog Linux running Enlightenment DR17 on a PS3.

So I'm starting to lean on waiting for a PS3, surfing the web with Firefox on my LCD TV appeals to me.

I was working an Indy race in Miami a number of years back, I used to volunteer for security duty to get into the pits.

While working the race, I came face to face with Stallone since he was in town filming Driven. He's a small dude, heck Estella Warren towered over him. Now I look at any of his movies in a different light, I guess camera angles do play an important part in filming.

You can ban a domain in the Ban advanced settings admin screen, just leave the user name blank to get to it:

The e-mail or e-mail domain you wish to ban (e.g. someone@somewhere.com or somewhere.com). See "Allow banned e-mail addresses" in Options for more info.

Bottom left, in the footer.

Fits rather well, will the forum go under Tech Support?

If you don't know what you're doing, being protected by sudo is the way to go. In my opinion, Ubuntu did the right thing , make the system less prone to getting trashed and at the same time teach you the proper way to do permissions.

Windows is a wide open affair, single user in mind from the start. Unix was designed to be multi-user from the get-go, so knowing how to work under a permission system, though it may suck at first, is worth the learning curve.

CodeXP, yes component cables, all this terminology can drive you crazy smile

On my LCD TV, I'm using HDMI cables for the digital cable box and DVD player, they give the same quality as component but they are easier to deal with as far as routing them from system to TV.
