So I have AT LEAST found a very good system "like I see ..."

http://www.glish.com/photo/show.asp?fil … /index.xml

Great, incredible options, quick, very well coded, and AT LEAST prove it's very incredible time and bandwidth servers have with "old systems"

It's 100% different !!! But I know the "problem" in fact : you don't play with contrast, and even the second theme si more readable, you seem to search a "pure" design : but for eyes, it's not the best ... all the problem of the web design is here : make pretty things as you do, but think to people who read too ... a "too bright" layout is nice for 2 or 3 minutes ... but if a user wants read a whole forum, not really "nice" for his eyes smile

The same problem : WHY RELOAD XXXXXXXXXXXXXX PAGES to see ONLY pics and categories ????

See this ...

>>> http://www.sortons.net/photos/
>>> http://www.sortons.net/photos/test2.htm

I want to go on "BARS" ... How many pages do I have to reload on the first link and on the 2nd ???!!

All these galleries are very "loud" for a server when you have, like me, very high traffic ... and it's time to "change" your visions of the galleries : furthermore, a system like tree 100% gracefull degradable + DOM system Image changing is more intuitive for the final user. My problem ? Php and me = 40.

For me FUTURE OF THE WEB GALLERY IS THIS
http://dasme.org/imagegal/demo/

No need to suffer the server to call only a pic ... 100% dom ... the only thing to change is to call the thumb on the fly with a xml system, and that's all ...

with url rewriting, you can "give" a url to a pic if you want to bookmark it ...

It's perfect. Simply.

Too white for me : my eyes cry !!!

But if this style is perfect for you, no problem smile

Don't like them ... don't like all the stuff actually about the galleries ... always this system a pic = a page ...

Paul : you are not cool smile

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes your theme is bright ... maybe "too" ... simply smile

It would be interesting to open a project no ?!!

And see how to create a simple, intuitive, fast, compatible system with pics ... and the more difficult > a translator for all the systems we use actually smile

In fact a "punGallery" would be better for all ...

imagine ...

Mmmmmmm it would be perfect for communauty system ...

I would like something powerfull like Coppermine (very powerfull), but written in the same philosophy like PunBB : efficacity, min-queries, and easy code understanding ... and all in dhtml / xhtml >> future of the web smile (it's funny, I say this sentence since 1998)

smile

I like smile I like very much, in fact smile

Nice, but a little "too ..." the good > evil ... the good > the bad ... in english ... which is dark > ... ? !!!

Shame on me smile

for me, all the galleries are bad in the sense where you want to see a pic, you have to change a page ... DOM changes this !!! and it's really good for galleries, for users, and .. THE SERVERS !

Ouch, Coppermine is not exactly "light weighted", for the client at least. The HTML used is terrible...

we are ok smile but it seems the dev team begins to see it, and change this of the next versions

I'm very honored by this answer !! Really thanx a lot !!! I think all the free sites I realize appreciate it !

It's easy to create galleries with CSS ...

look at my COPPERMINE version >> http://www.sortons.net/photos/

Float and Div ... simply ... if you are interested by creating a gallery system, I can help you to do a dhtml / css system smile

in fact I have seen mypunbb and I must admin it's great.

I begin to host freely musicians, artists .. ( http://www.steac.sortons.net ) and I'm very interested by the processus of auto creation by a login / password, and all hosted on my site ...

it's a secret of the gods, or can we escape, one day, to dream about a mod / plugin ?

IE is bad ... didn't you know ? smile

One example smile today I have put my magazine in 3 formats
- picture gallery
- zip file (11 mo)
- pdf file (3,5 mo)

Pictures viewed 30 times about >>> 30x32 (pages) x 40 (ko average)
zip file (11 mo) downloaded 90 times >> 90x 11 mo
pdf file (3,5 mo) downloaded or viewed 50 times ... >> 3,5x50 ...

FOR ONLY ONE MEDIA (a magazine)

smile we have bandwitdh pics about 5 ~ 6mb/s on the day !!!

I admit I'm a case : all photos of sortons.net = 6 go on the disk space !!! And a lot of people don't need this.

About Textdrive I see often problems with connecting DB : normal ?

Must be all the multimedia then because normally 150000 pages/day would not amount to anything near 40 GB/day. PunBB.org has approx. 15000 page views per day and the average bandwidth it consumes is 190 MB/day.

I don't see on any page of the domain punbb.org a PICTURE smile no Graphics about layout, no graphic banner ... it's so "normal" the numbers are very different smile

Simply by
- fantasya.net > "a little traffic" because the final version is not online (about 10gb) ... about 5000 visitors/day (but when fantasya was famous, we grew up until 80/90 per day !)

- sortons.net > about 4000 visits/day, 150 000 pages / day and a lot of multimedia files to see or to download (sounds, videos et of course, photos) ...

but it's "nothing" > when you have a lot of multimedia, "limited" bandwidth is like a piege ...

But the price is simply great : our host is french ( http://www.ovh.fr ) ... and you have a good server (PIV 3ghZ, 512 ram, 80 Hd), and 20mb/s of bandwidth for 149 euros / month !!! (about 160$).

I use about 40Gb/day ... smile

Yes !!! great !!!

PunBB was only skinnable by colors ... but with this mod, we can alterate the "hard code" ... interesting !

Simply great !!! smile

Rickard ... could you innove by replacing BBcode by this textile code ? smile Very impressive (and indeed, easier than the [ ] ...)

It would be top to have less requests / clics ... I know I know ... you're fed up with my dhtml and dom vision sad ...
