Same for me, I am waiting for the adaptation of M2F to PunBB before I migrate my phpBB2 to PunBB :-(
OK, let's be positive, I promise I will make a donation to PunBB as soon as someone (maybe you) adapt M2F to PunBB and of course it needs to work on my forums (and I am not a programer). Maybe it will help you to be motivated.

The answer is http://www.mail2forum.com/ so the work is already done. Someone (smarter than me) just have to adapt M2F to PunBB (it is already working with phpBB2).

Thanks for theses answers I agree on XHTML, I still think that having a link to the GPL will be great to EDUCATE visitors/users to Open Sources Programs.
Just a personal thought.

PunBB is very great, I install it on my web site.
I am surprise that the GNU Public License is not displayed on the forums, therefore the users don't know it is GNU (too bad!).
Same with the xhtml statement that is not displated. One of theses little icones will be nice.
