The problem is that we don't know why gmail has tagged it as spam. If we knew why, we could figure out what to change in order for it to go through.

I'm curious if changing from/reply-to to the domain that is actually sending the mail will help. E.g. change the webmaster e-mail address from @breakcore.com.au to @<your server>.

I tried signing up and like you said, gmail tagged it as spam. Are you using an external SMTP server or is the server that's running the forums also sending the e-mail?

I did notice in the headers that SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is in effect. Not sure if that can affect anything.

It should be noted that this is the first time I've seen gmail tag a PunBB generated e-mail as spam.

If ! ! is a spambot, it's not doing a very good job at spamming big_smile

Some nice ones.

We do have the option of not providing a description at all and letting the administrator enter it when the forum is installed. What do you guys think about that?

Could you perhaps post a link to the forums in question so we can try it out?

Come on, no suggestions?

Enough with the CAPS LOCK please.

Why don't you ask here?

I thought the default description for PunBB forums was kind of cool back in the day, but now I think it's time to either replace it or allow users to input their own description in the install script. Suggestions?

Good idea. I think I prefer pogenwurst's solution though. Otherwise, people will be confused that debug info is displayed even though debug mode is off. I'll put it on the list.

Under donations, www.SonataSoftware.US is listed and my company name has changed and my website too. How can I change my website to www.ApplauseSoftware.com?

I would like to keep my backlink.

My company was forced to change its name due to trademark lidigations.

I'm confused. There's no link to Sonata Software on the donations list. When you made the donation in December, I mistakenly linked to SonataSoftware.us, but you contacted me and asked me to change the link to Applause Software and I did.

downliner: Done.

I meant that in general people are way too obsessed about security.

Yes, but people are obsessed about security in all the wrong ways. They install mammoth software firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spyware and shit like that instead of using a bit of common sense.

In the case of PunBB though, I believe we need to be a bit obsessed. We're developing something that other people are going to use, and we're distributing it with the source code wide open.

The hashed ( with salt ) passwords in a *nix system are stored in a passwd file. Where is the location where the salt is typicaly kept?

I believe the salts are stored in what is called a shadow file. At least, that's how I think Linux does it.

For the users table, it shouldn't really matter. Go ahead.

PunBB doesn't have a calendar, so maybe that's a mod?

flx: In you don't have any intention of using it anymore, a redirect to punbb.org would be great. That is if you haven't got any plans at all for it. No pressure.

As some of you might know, in order for a browser (or any other application that consumes web pages) to render a page properly, it needs to know how the text on that page is encoded and what content-type it has. There are two ways to send this information to the browser.

1. Send an HTTP header.
2. Include a meta tag in the head of the page.

I believe the W3C recommends doing both, but the information on this is a bit conflicting. I'm guessing the meta tag is there only to support really old (or weird) browsers. We would like to get rid of the meta tag in PunBB 1.3 (it solves a couple of problems). To confirm this, I've setup a small page at

http://punbb.org/cttest.php

Please go there and confirm that the header text reads Iñtërnâtiônàlizætiøn regardless of which encoding you choose in the drop-down. We've already confirmed that it works in the following browsers:

IE6 and 7
Firefox 1.5 and 2.0
Safari 1.3 and 2.0
Lynx

So, really, we're only interested in people who have access to other browsers. Please post your results in this topic.

Shawn is working on getting the validation errors fixed in the new parser.

Tja, om någon sätter upp ett forum, så länkar jag gärna dit.

Personally, I've never quite understood people's criticism towards phpBB. Sure, phpBB2 is a bit dated and they've had quite a few security problem, but that comes with the territory. Regardless of what people might think, there IS a relation between security and popularity. One could argue that right now, phpBB2 is one of the more secure bulletin boards out there because it has been pounded on for so long.

I haven't really looked into phpBB3 so I can't comment on that. I just hope they don't go the same route as every other project out there and start adding feature after feature to silence the masses. Come to think of it, that's exactly what I want them to do - it'll put PunBB in an even sweeter spot big_smile
