I just committed the new extern.php (together with an updated .htaccess and common language file). It's pretty much a complete rewrite. It outputs feeds as RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0, a homebrew XML format or as regular HTML (<li>'s). The biggest change though is that it supports topic feeds. Those of you who have 1.3 installs running, give it a go and report any problems to me. Cheers!

Re: Make all navlinks "additional navlinks" (7 replies, posted in Feature requests)
Well, you could hide them with CSS. Each list item has a unique ID.

Re: Make all navlinks "additional navlinks" (7 replies, posted in Feature requests)
I can understand your reasons for wanting to only show certain links to certain user groups, but why would you ever want to remove a link?

Re: Integrating the forum with the rest of my website's design (Help!) (10 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 modifications, plugins and integrations)
You should be able to do that with the pun_include directive in the templates. One problem with that is that the files you want to include must be placed in /include/user/. You could also add symbolic links to the files if they are located somewhere else.

Exactly. I have an idea on how to utilize the online table for the throttling. We'll see how it turns out. I want to keep the DB changes to a minimum.

Re: Punbb Tshirt (34 replies, posted in Feature requests)
I would buy a shirt if it had some kind of slogan on it, not just the logo.
Personally I would buy a shirt with the PunBB logo and a slogan that said "It's what all the cool people are doing." At least it would puzzle people.
Not a bad idea.

I wish I could give you guys an ETA, but I can't. I could probably squeeze in a few hours this weekend and work out the feeds though.

Settle down. Use the patch. It's available on the downloads page together with instructions. If you need a patch that takes you from e.g. 1.2.6 to 1.2.8, you can find it in the download archive. The patch will take care of the update even though you've made modifications. If it for some reason can't, it will let you know.

I plan on implementing a simple form of "throttling" in 1.3. This throttling will affect various actions. Registering, posting, sending e-mail etc.

Re: Writeboard from 37Signals (4 replies, posted in General discussion)
That company (37signals) has a great reputation for project/organization management, so I am looking forward to using their free product.
They also have great taste I do wish they would spend 5 minutes changing the stylesheet to better match the rest of their website though.

Download the changed files archives for 1.2.7 and 1.2.8. They only include the files that have been modified.

Your template is screwed.

For some reason, some of the PunBB replacement variables have been htmlspecialchars()'ed. E.g: charset=<pun_char_encoding>

I simply include the output from the news generator plugin at the right place with a PHP include and then style it with the stylesheets.

I am aware of the problem, but I haven't had time to investigate what might be causing it. It must be a server configuration issue since it has, as far as I know, never happened on for example this website.

Re: PunBB needs your money! (124 replies, posted in News)
I've been giving this some thought, and even though I still think the guy behind milliondollarhomepage.com is a genius and that he deserves our money, what reviewum.com said does make a lot of sense. Maybe we should use the money to invest in some proper advertisement for PunBB? One thing that occurred to me was that we could upgrade the HotScripts.com listing to a "Premium listing". With the exception of google.com, hotscripts.com is the top referrer for PunBB. Upgrading it to a premium listing will cost $120 for a year. A "Sponsored listing" on the other hand, is ridiculously expensive at $1600 for a year.
I will not do this without permission from the people who donated for the milliondollarhomepage thing. Just so you know. If you don't like that the money might be spent on anything else than 30x30 pixels on that website, just let me know and I'll transfer the money back to you.
