It looks like you're pasting the Wordpress header in the wrong place. Look at this page and carefully follow the directions: http://www.almosteffortless.com/?p=21

Isn't that the whole point of the plugin?

I could put that code into the forum itself, but I don't like to hack up the source if I can avoid it. I tend to blow changes away when I upgrade. Even having the avatars under /img/avatars/ has caused me some trouble smile Perhaps when there is a proper plugin system I'll turn it into a plugin, but I'm holding off until then.

Do you mean like the link "Show recent posts" at the bottom of Index, but with the ability to change how long back in time you want to go?

Funny... I actually whipped this up for a site I maintain:

http://newathens.org/admin/

Look at the bottom, there's a set of drop-down menus that allows you to specify a date range.

I don't think there is anything malicious intended in politely asking people to leave the copyright in the footer intact. That being said, you are well within your rights to remove it - and to do anything else with the PunBB software you like, provided that you follow the requirements set forth by the GPL license. I think it's a very nice gesture to leave the copyright notice on there (and I do), but I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with removing it. Either way, it's not a legal issue - it's a moral one. If you appreciate the free and unrestricted use of this great software, the author politely asks that you leave the copyright in the footer intact. If you feel you have good reason to remove it, you're certainly allowed to do so. Not that I'm a lawyer or have any official connection to PunBB. smile

4.2 - May I remove the copyright from the page footer? Yes, but please don't. If you must, please try to keep at least "Powered by PunBB" with the link to www.punbb.org intact.

yep - thanks for the easy "changes only" downloads.

wow - that's a lot of great stuff! i'm really looking forward to 1.3, especially the proper extensions bit.

THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!

I wonder if/when we should start leveling you with feedback...?

For now - congratulations and thanks - I think this is going to be great for the punbb community.

I'd imagine that the old behavior will still be the default, and that the ability to have topics marked as "new" until you actually read them would be a per-user option...?

i think i just saw a pig fly by my window...

What I'm proposing doesn't try to solve the "real" "problem" (scare-quotes) here, because I don't that that users actually want to read every single post.

I'm basically just giving the user a choice to see posts that are new since X date/time. I think that this simple addition to the searching capabilities (search.php) would provide a lot of benefit for users that are requesting a way to mark posts as read when they're read.

Not that I think the javascript idea is a bad one - but I don't want to rely on things that may or may not work with future versions. I also am not interested in radically expanding PunBB's feature set. However, I think that adding this extra small feature will result in less worry about this other, larger, "feature" or change in behavior.

I've been getting a lot of complaints on forum I'm running about the way that the "new post" indicator works. Personally, I think that the way things work is fine, but I'm trying to work with people a bit. I don't want to go through a bunch of crazy database modifications, so I came up with a "compromise" of sorts.

http://www.almosteffortless.com/files/p … -hack.phps

Basically, I'm allowing the user to pass a "last_visit" login to the search.php page as a GET variable. This requires a line added to search.php, but only one.

You can see this in action here: http://www.newathens.org/admin/

I'm wondering if this sort of thing might be worth adding to PunBB at the core. I'm thinking a fairly simple "show me posts since" thing could be pretty cool. My feeling is that people start reading a few posts, get caught up doing something else, and then get mad because the posts they didn't read are going to be marked read by the time they get back. In this case, that person could note the time they had to take care of other stuff, and then get back online with that date as the starting point.

This might also be better solved by allowing someone to revert back to their "last-last visit", which might be worth considering. In this case, I'm thinking you would save their current last_visit variable before replacing it, and then they could click something that would reset it to that temporarily saved one.

Anyway, I think it might be a good idea to add this "show me posts since" feature to the core. I've gotten the code most of the way there (perhaps the 24hr format isn't too popular?) and I'd be happy to iron out anything else that could make this better.

Like I said, I think the way PunBB works totally makes since. But, I'd like to find a way to make everybody happy. I'm sure you, too, would like to hear less bitching! Maybe this is a compromise...?

Yeah, I looked into this, and I don't quite get it.

I can't get this plugin working - has anybody else?

Sorry, but can you clarify what the fix is? A line number, perhaps? I can't seem to find it...

I'm trying to get the Local Searches "Pepper" working with PunBB searches. I asked in the Mint forum, but it seems nobody knows how to do it.

http://www.haveamint.com/forum/viewtopi … 3907#p3907

I quickly looked at getting Local Searches working with PunBB but was disappointed to see that because of the caching technique used Local Searches doesn't have the opportunity to detect the search query or the resource found by the search.

If somebody who knows what that means can help, I'd love to get this figured out.

From the Mint config:

Local Searches Pepper
by Shaun Inman

You already know how people are finding you, now know what they are still looking for once they do.

Local Searches

Path {}
A relative path, eg. /search/ or /search.php (Don't include index.*)
Query {}
The q in /search.php?q=Mint (Only works with the get form method)

The {} indicates a form field.

The question is what should be put into the Query field, as I think the "search.php" path is pretty self-explanitory.

Great! I'm trying to get a Wordpress plugin that would allow you to use PunBB instead of the WP Comments system. There's a plugin that tries this, but it isn't working...

http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8373

I just want to bump this a bit, sorry.

Does anyone know of an easy way to add a Topic via a function or something? Right now, it looks like you have to add a Topic, then a Post, then make some changes to the Topic, and possibly the user.

Is there anything easier?

I can't get this thing to work. It seems to create the topic OK, but creating the post fails... I'm working on it, but if anybody else can have a look, that would be great...

The main problem I see is that adding a "post" seems complicated. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to use the $db class to simply add a post to a particular forum. Looking at this plugin, which has a function to add a post, it seems there is a lot to it (http://www.happypoet.com/hackery/wphpbb/).

Is there a function we can use to add a new post, and possibly return the ID of that new post?

I would think so. The main idea is to put your wordpress header and footer on top/bottom of your punbb, and then get the css in there, too. so, it really should work with any theme out there.

I sure would! Keep us informed!

I integrated PunBB and Wordpress, with the brand new k2 theme (http://binarybonsai.com/k2/). I think the results are great (http://www.almosteffortless.com/forum/), and I wrote a blog post about it (http://www.almosteffortless.com/?p=21). Please check it out and let me know what you think! And thanks again for your very helpful post about it.

I see the option in the Transmit FTP client settings, and I'll change it. Anyway, I just wanted to point this issue out. It's totally my fault, obviously, but I though it would be worth mentioning.

Yeah, I see this option now. I upgraded via FTP (Mac Transmit is my client) and it replaces folders and deletes the files. I guess I'll move the upload directory in the options, but it might be nice to note this potential mistake in the upgrade docs.

so, i just upgraded my punbb install and totally overwrote / deleted the avatar directory (/img/avatar/). it would be nice, methinks, to put this directory is something that isn't included in the "upload" directory, so it won't be overwritten on upgrade. otherwise, or in addition to this, it would be nice to add a note about this to the docs, so other fools don't make the same mistake i did.
