OK. I will dig it out. When I upload it I will post the link here and update the link on the mod releases thread. Be warned though, it was designed for PunBB v.1.0.1 so I don't guarentee it will work. I would guess that the line numbers in the instructions are also obsolete.
I stopped updating it so I took it down. I will probably do a new version when PunBB 1.2 is released.
I'm confused. There is nothing forcing you to create more than one forum. Could you elaborate a little.
Hmmm, I was looking for all the discussions about reducing the number of <table>s in PunBB, anbd replacing it with CSS - anyone got any idea where that went? (can't find it using search).
many thanks...
Unless of course he meant punres which according to the front page is version 2.1
Version 2.1
Sometime during the summer of 2007 I would imagine.
Sorry for butting in again.
Hopefully we can make PunBB 1.2 so that it can be translated just by way of language files. I don't like the fact that you have to edit the scripts. It will make updates and mods really difficult.
Interesting idea but I can't see any way you can avoid having to manually flip the tables. You can make them look as if they have been flipped in the stylesheet by changing the colum widths, wrapping etc but that doesn't change which bits of data get put into each column unless of course you do this
<td>
if left to right
this data
else
that data
</td>
That of course works but doesn't help with the admin interface
From what I saw everything e.g. columns gets transposed. Hopefully in 1.2 it will only be the tables that need to be manually edited. With luck everything else will simply be a matter of changing float, margin and text-alignment settings in the stylesheet. I will test it.
jwalton: I might just take you up on your offer of a Jaws test. Have you any experience of IBM Home Page Reader. Thats much more affordable for us amateurs but does it give realistic results.

Hmmm... don't understand what it means, but I'm sure it's great hehe.
It means it's bloody difficult to understand a table being read by a screen reader when it doesn't know which heading goes with which bit of data so it needs fixing.
Just to update matters.
It turned out that viewtopic was extremely simple to do as a tableless design and it solves some site integration problems i.e. it is easier to control the width in Internet Explorer. Oh! and it doesn't have column headers. The only tables that remain at present are multi-columned data tables. There are no layout tables left.
Forms have been left as tables and I don't think it worth the effort of trying a tableless design. The principle change will be to use the <label> tag to link the labels to the input fields.
On the accessibility point. The one major problem I identified is the main table on the index page. The problem as I understand it is that Jaws is not particularly fond of sub-headings, in this case the category header, even when marked up correctly and positively chokes on colspan. There is of course a quick fix which is to get rid of colspan and position the category header over the forum name.
What I had in mind for an accessible design for the index page was to make each category a seperate table. The category header then becomes the table caption which can be dressed up with css to look like the top row of the table. The column headers then appear under the category header. The result is several small regular tables rather than one big irregular one.
jwalton: I have rather been assuming that the disabled users you have in mind had impaired vision but of course that might not be the case. Are there any tips you can give me generally. Even if it requires a special release to be truly accessible I would still aim at the orginal being as accessible as possible.

If you do this could could you please post a link to your board here together with your code.
I don't know about it being a must have feature but if it were available as a mod I would certainly install it. Since I haven't installed any other mods maybe that tells you something. I have to admit, my main use for it is laziness. If I visit a forum that has it I just hit the link and if nothing of interest has been posted I leave without logging in. That is the way I keep upto date at TFI where I haven't even registered.
If we are talking about usefullness, it has just struck me that I have never used the "Show unanswered posts" link.
Not me. Though I wish it had been.
Let us know how you get on and how you did it (if you do it). I can't work out how to inject the values that install.php asks for on the install form.
Hmm. Why would you search for recent posts instead of searching for topics that have been updated since your last visit? The latter seems a lot more interesting
It is useful for boards where a large proportion of the users are guests/occassional users rather than members in which case there is no last visit information.
I miss this feature too. It's not the same as "Show posts since last visit" and you don't need to login to use it.
I like it too. Clean, simple and elegant. Any plans for PunBB integration?
Thanks ximx.
Could you provide some more information about your mod. See here http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=3849 for the preferred method of doing it.
I thought that was the best solution. Might look even better with the spacing adjusted to close up the arrows.
BTW: Just installed Mandrake 10. You will be pleased to know everything on 1.2 works with the latest version of Konqueror.
You could put a couple of slashes in front of the forum name like a web address
//This Forum
You could cheat and put all redirected forums in a special category and call it "Redirected Forums".
Put some arrows after the forum name indicating it is going somewhere
This Forum >>> (Actually I rather like this one)
As there will be no last post then you could use that column and put in the words
Redirected
Offsite
That also explains why there are no last post details etc.
Incidentally, would a use for this be to redirect the mod forums to punres?
