It takes about three seconds for an admin to change a member's username in the event of a name conflict. I can't imagine any situation where a separate list for usernames would save any time.

It might not save time, but it doesn't seem to be good policy to let someone register with a username, then change it.  Oh well, I'll just register a bunch of accounts with the names I want to avoid.

But that option prevents editing at all times, not just when an admin or mod has edited the post previously.

What about disallowing usernames that aren't censored words?  For example, if someone were running a message board about a popular movie, book, game, etc and didn't want people registering as the author's name, characters, etc?

Is there a mod or a way for a single post to be locked so that the original poster can't edit it?  I'd like to be able to replace text in a post with "Deleted by an Adminstrator" or something similar rather than deleting the post.  The problem is, that user can just log in and re-edit the post, can't they?

Thanks,
Ct

I want to run a board where people can register, but their username never shows up when they post (they could put a signature at the bottom of their post if they want).  I'm doing ok on the main forum list with getting rid of the "Posted by" usernames, but I'm running into difficulty in the topic lists and topics themselves.  Any ideas?

Let me be a little more specific...

I want users to be able to log in and post like normal.  Users should not be able to see the usernames of anyone who posts except for admins or moderators.  Moderators/admins should be able to see everyone's usernames at all times.  Essentially, I want an anonymous board from the point of view of the users with the mods/admin being able to see who is posting what.

Thanks,

Ct

Getting there... if anyone is interested, I'll be happy to share.
