Also, those features aren't going to be in 1.3: they'll just probably be extensions as opposed to mods. You'll still have to install them (although it should be somewhat easier)

That's exactly what I mean. I don't see any sense in starting to work on making punBB compliant to what we need when there will be a new version out in 2 or 3 months. But if I cannot get any information about that, it also makes no sense to wait any longer, just because of punBB.
A normal situation: before starting a large move you need information. If you can't get that information, don't move. If you have to move, move to where you get the information.

Ok, I've read this from the start (and other threads along this line). What bothers me: I want to change from SMF which is integrated in Joomla!. A friend pointed out punBB and from what I see and read it may be my forum software of choice. BUT:

Over more than one year 1.3 is in the making. But I cannot wait another 1 or 2 years for an update which carries the things which are essential for me. If I'd take punBB as it is now it is almost useless for me because I would have to install lots of MODs like pms, avatars, etc. The big question is also the conversion of the SMF database if I must use MODs for almost everything except the bare bones. It's a database with more than 2K users and more than 110K postings, so you don't mess with that if you don't have to.

I have to / want to decide which forum software we want to use within this year. So I hoped I could get a bit more information about the state of 1.3. If this stays as unpredictable as it is now, I'll have to turn elsewhere, no doubt about that and no choice either. So, please give me a chance and let me hear something more helpful than the Debian Mantra (and if you don't want to do it in public because you don't want to be crucified if you can't keep the schedule, then drop me a mail).

Hopefully,

Ah, then I know the culprit! Thanks for pointing me into the right direction.
As you may know from my poor English: I am a German. So I used the German installer, offered on the German PunBB site. It's advertized as "German installer for 1.2.11" but it really is the 1.2.10 installer - which seems to work for 1.2.11 as well except for the version number.

I wiped the fresh installation and used the original install.php and now I have 1.2.11 written all over the place. smile

I did not upgrade anything. As I wrote, I downloaded the 1.2.11 tarball and installed it. It's a fresh installation, no upgrade.

I grabbed punbb-1.2.11.tar.bz2 and installed it. But the footer shows "Powered by PunBB 1.2.10" and the version check in the admin area shows the same. When I click on "Check for upgrade" I am told that there is a new version available.
But it must be 1.2.11 because the patches which were integrated in 1.2.10 to make it 1.2.11 are there (IP flooding).

is this just a small glitch which I can fix? I have users who are looking for such things. sad
