Joomla pagination

I hate to jump over to another persons site for questions, but at the joomla support forums I've noticed alot of questions (including some of my own) with responses like, "You can find the file here.  Good luck!"  So, I went asking how to do a certain something, and got pointed to a file. 
Now, here on the other hand, I see real good help, and I have noticed a few threads regarding Joomla, so I was thinking maybe I could swing by here and ask a non-PunBB question.

In the Joomla CMS, it "paginates' everything, all and good, with a display like so:
<<First <Previous Next> Last>>
with your most recent article (or whatever) being written as 1 of Whatever.

I would like this to be reversed, so that even though I still want the most recent article to be the first thing you see, I want it to be the last in the chain of articles.  The display would then become this (as if you were fist logging onto my site)
<<First <Previous Next> Last>>

I fany of you are familiar with Joomla, I would really appreciate some help.
