Topic: User fields/variables that expand in posts

When supporting projects using a forum, you tend to provide links to examples of what you are working on.

More often than not, those examples move to other locations. Finding and editing all the posts to the updated urls becomes a chore to say the least.

So my feature request is to have user profile variables, let's say 10, that you could use in your posts. How you wrap these variables would be up to the forum developer but it would be similar to bbcode.

An example would be: Hey visit my site for a new PunBB skin - {user_var1}

Just an idea, a feature I haven't seen on other forums.

Waw, like building Setup program :-o

If your people come crazy, you will not need to your mind any more.

Re: User fields/variables that expand in posts

Actually, you can do this with custom BBCodes in vBulletin (I've seen a Google hack... [google]term[/google] will link to a google search) but I digress. It would be handy smile

notnamed: That not what he meant. I believe he's talking about a feature where each user gets to define e.g. 10 search and replace terms in his/her profile that posts are then filtered through. I'm not sure it's a particularily PunBB:ish feature though. It feels more like something you would find in IPB or vBulletin. Am I wrong?

Just a thought, might not be PunBB:ish as you say but a nice support feature.

Re: User fields/variables that expand in posts

IMHO this is a feature I would never use ...

Re: User fields/variables that expand in posts

It cool to make it as small MOD (yamm) smile

i have same problem with multi language forum
for forum Name (English, Arabic)
when user login as English must see forum name in English
the same as in arabic, if we put forum name in variable, we resolve it,
but it is just fatasy MOD and must not be in official PunBB.
