Topic: BlackBoard

Anyone seen this one yet?  I stumbled across it today...
http://blackboard.unclassified.de/

Appears to be very new...

Main feature is that it's designed from ground up to have native Jabber IM notification for replies and new topics.  The interface looks very pleasing, and supposedly has full XHTML and CSS compliance.  A lot of features out of the box too - access rights, polls, attachments, bbcode buttons, and the download is only approx 550KB.

Feature list (taken from their main page):
    *  Native Jabber IM notification
    * Very powerful access rights management
    * Robust BB code parser with syntax checking and complete nesting tags support
    * Transparent and foreseeable read status of threads
    * Scalable solution ? database server and web servers can reside on separate
    * Compatible with any operating system that supports PHP and MySQL
    * Almost completely automated installation, configuration in the integrated web-interface
    * In-place forums configuration, no special Admin CP needed for this
    * Intuitive usage: commands are where you expect them to be
    * Arbitrary nesting of forums or categories
    * Easy integration into present websites or a small layout
    * Full Unicode support, also in e-mails and notifications
    * E-Mail and Jabber notification on replies or new topics
    * Full ACL support on group/user and forum/thread level, users can be members of many groups
    * Multiple designs and languages
    * Cookie and URL-based sessions supported (works without cookies)
    * Freely customizable BBCode tags and user profile fields
    * Automatic GZip output compression
    * Post attachments, polls, bookmarks, statistics, ?pin?/move/split topics, user avatars and photos.....

Re: BlackBoard

looks nice although not as neat as punbb, looks like they are going more for features than speed

Re: BlackBoard

Though not too many features to become bloated like phpbb...

I like their doco - they've fully explained the db table structures, etc.

Re: BlackBoard

this sounds bloated

Transparent and foreseeable read status of threads
The board will exactly remember, what you have read, and what not ? across sessions and without cookies. You can take some control over this by marking entire threads/forums as read, particular posts as unread and find all unread posts. You will be pointed to the exact position of new posts in a thread, regardless of what computer you use or whether you have read every new post at your last visit.

We need to do the same for PunBB, added to the todo list.

Re: BlackBoard

From what I read in their forum it appears to be a custom made text file based system. The admin was asking for suggestions for a better system and mantisbt was one of the scripts mentioned.

Re: BlackBoard

yeh sorry i sorta just looked for links in it maybe just ask them they might give you a copy it look like a nice system they have

It's my own. smile It consists of 3 PHP files right now and uses a MySQL DB. I have tested a bit with SqLite, too. It's not as powerful as FlySpray yet, but it will be some time in the future... When I have more time for it... wink

This will change in the next version. The main target is usability. Then design, features, speed and all that.
