Re: Multi - PunBB v2

Well, a peek at the code would be interesting, but I also understand your point of view...

How punBB would suffer from it I don't understand. Guess your punBB-hosting has made many interested in having their own setup, which I beleive is good for the community since more users (not always but) often improves the community by suggestions and different views on things...

But that's just my point of view...

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

Because although i'm not the best hosts i'm not that bad, whereas other people would not "Look after" their customers very well.

The code for mypunbb now is extremely simple, it uses lighttpd and the mysql_vhost module, and simply loads the set of files needed for that forum (different forums can load different packages), the forum files are of course edited so that conflicts with the cache/avatars don't arise

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

@Connorhd: how difficult would it be to create something like mypunbb for a cms instead of a forum?

Depends, if its all database for storage then its easy, the more stuff it saves to files the harder as you obviously have to watch for conflicts. What CMS are you thinking of?

Sorry, but I don't understand why that would be a problem to you or punBB. If a forumhost is bad customers leaves for other forumhosting (you..?) or start their own board. In worst case they stop using punBB, but I hardly believe they blame punBB, when it's the one providing the service that misbehaves.

Unfortunately I'm no great coder, but will search for lighttpd and mysql_vhost and see what I understand from it.

I understand you're more interested in keeping the code since it might become competition for you. I'll search elsewhere instead. Darn..  wink

I've seen scripts for PHP-nuke out there. But personally I'd rather go with PostNuke or Mambo/Joomla. Will PM you if I stumbles over it again

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

@Dr.Jeckyl -> It wasn't that big problem finding...  eznuke.com and advantiscript.com was the one's I've seen. Guess there are others as well

@Connorhd -> lighttpd as in lighthttpd.com? Then it's nothing for me since I'm on a server with Apache already...

either sBlog, XOOPS or Frontpage PunBB, depends on the functionality i want my users to have. i meant to say cms/blog in my previous post. so it doesn't have to be just a cms.

@N!cklas: thanks! i'll check those out. BUT, i tend to stay clear of *nuke based stuff.

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

N!cklas, Yeh, but mypunbb used to run on apache with shared hosting,
as for bad hosts if you have a bad host, life is bad, and it does reflect on PunBB, even if it didn't wouldn't it be better that people came straight to me which is better rather than being swamped with bad hosting?
as for keeping the code, i just explained pretty much excatly how it works, there isn't really any "code" to share.

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

Just aint that good coder...  But I'll have another look tomorrow. Getting tired and CSI is on TV in 2 mins...  See ya!

Re: Multi - PunBB v2

haha, i'd forgotten about this topic smile, Yeh knocked it up in a couple of hours wink still got to write the best bit though, integration with a mypunbb.com forum smile Also you mentioned Frontpage punbb, i do plan to add a portal option to mypunbb with the options for a calendar, and allowing you to create your own html pages on it.

The only bit of sBLOG that was tricky was the image uploads but simply searching for upload/ in all files and fixing the 20-30 occurances wasn't hard
