Sort of fond of  Geeklog myself. I have an install mywebthing but haven't messed with it for some time. Pretty sweet.

I went with it after messing with Drupal (which I still like), after messing with phpWebSite, after messing with the Nukes.

For $399 you get TextDrive hosting, for life!

But to note- from their site, it is their lifetime, not yours smile

For a one-time payment of US $399 ? this will be yours for as long as TextDrive exists. We look forward to having you with us for many years to come.

Being a Firefox tabbed browsing kinda guy, I always have my thumb on ther modifier to do it in a new tab anyway. Just took some getting used to. I think the new window will always be present, imagine checking links from a google search result without it..

Good catch- I did screw that up. had mMY instead of desired dMY...corrected that and it fixed it right away.

Thanks man, apologies for my stupidity.

Hey guys,
Got a weird one. I installed V1.2.0 (about two hours before 1.2.1 came out) and no errors. I noticed a couple days later, all the dates said today. Thought maybe just that default post. Well a couple more posts and it is still doing it.

I just updated all to V1.2.1, cleared my cookies, double checked time zones (admin and profile), didn't make any edits to anything...not sure what is going on really.

Site is located here:
http://forum.schaeffersmom.com/

Any thoughts appreciated...

Mike

EDIT- Also cleared cache..

Avatar code seems to pick the size pretty good.

Maybe upload it, but if bigger than setting, display link instead??

I hate Enom. Had problems with them earlier last year. Switch to RegisterFly. It's MUCH cheaper.

I wouldn't call it expensive. I pay the equivalent of $15 per year for punbb.org.

Wow- I can fix you up with $8.95 retail or reseller enom account if interested (I set punres up that way), I have a $6.95 account.

You could resell to support punBB smile

Come on guys, cut them some slack- the topic is 13 pages long...

similar question- db stored themes or files (currently files)...??

and does lightly loaded server versus busy one make one lean one way or the other?

for me db is better, "order by" advantage enough. easier to backup as well.

If only 13 and looking for small site (which most people don't even use a tenth of their BW/Disk space). Try http://www.hostinglite.com/ (specifically- http://www.hostinglite.com/shared.php ). I have a resller account with them and seems to be working fine. It is cPanel though...

The reseller accounts are the best- mutlidomain hosting is the best way to go (if you ever think more than one domain).

Depending on how much "support" you need- I can host it pretty cheap ( http://www.mgwebhosting.com ) but I have gone to a "do it yourself kind of clients"...just no time for constant support.

Curious- one install per subdomain...??

This is easy with Plesk (as opposed to cPanel)- only need to create a subdomain and it does all work for you. Each subdomain gets its own httpdocs setup...sweet....

Great. I'm not a convert yet, but if Mac users made that point instead of bashing Windows as if people were still using Windows 95, I'd be a lot closer.

Top 10 things that save me time on my Mac:
10. iTunes, iCal, iPhoto, etc all work smooth and save me time.
9. No Virus software to mess with smile
8. Built in screen / region capture to pdf for easily grabbing anything on the screen smile
7. Sherlock
6. Cool network utility
5. terminal- for the *nix nuts.
4. Right click and do about anything.
3. Security done right and easy.
2. Expose- the ALT-TAB killer
1. Cool App- Quicksilver- anything from bookmarks, to itunes, to addresses, to apps with one keystroke and a few characters

And to waste time-
1. Cool chess game

And I only post this because I've had a few St Pauli girls and bored here in the hotel during another fun week of work travel......

agree with connerhd....same concept, different syntax. I found best to get a reference book (I also had a php/mysql book) but found php.net the best source. I tend to go against using code examples in most cases- best way to learn (IMHO) is hash it out yourself. Need a emai send function, write it until you get it, etc..... works for me..

Also- think of a project- for me it was a CMS than ended up being phpCOIN. A lot easier if you have a "end goal" in mind.

Staying clear of the mac vs pc debate. I use both (work-win, home mac). Love the mac the best for what I use it for, but honestly can't do alot of things we do under windows. Preference - Mac. You'll either love it or hate...room for all. smile

Note on most security releases- many of these are for for the apache / server side of the OS. I don't think most people are even running the server (off by default- lesson there for MS), so although it sounds bad- many not effected.

It surprises me because I had hardly heard any of the candidates discuss the morality questions. All I heard was terrorist this and terrorist that. I also think it's sad that we let the religious beliefs of some people dictate the lives of other people.

IANAL, but would a ban on gay marriage not be in direct conflict with that clause?

Does it surprise you that european "propaganda" only provides news of our big and nasty appetite for terrorists, and not about all the other things that make up our country.

You see statements like this are typical of the attitude toward Americans- you only know what you are told. Any American understands the delicate balance of church and state and the current issues that we as a nation need to resolve. There is considerable coverage here in the states on all these issues, but it seems it doesn't get over across the pond. In general, in case you missed it during the debates- Bush noted his "religious" beliefs impact his political decisions, with that one statement he garnered a ton of votes from rural / religious america. Anti-abortion and no funding for stem cell research and he gets a bunch more.

Unfortunately, as dmz noted, majority rules. Guess at the percentage of American who make up the following:
Religion / Morality- Bush pandered to the religious right and it paid off. Note the big swath of rural america that went his way (states up the middle).
Upper class- Bushonomics tend to favor the rich with trickle down economics, a lot of upper class people.
Fear- He managed to fool a large number of persons into thinking they are safer with him. Yes- unfortunate as it is, a large number of people seem to lack the intellect to sort out the truth.

Take the total percentage of: Religious moralist people, those with money to make under his "plan", and add some scared gullable people, and guess what- a majority is born.

So you see, or can't see, the reason people voted for Bush is not just always war. There are many issues in the US that Bush (and the republican party) represent, and it is the summation of these that gets him the majority.

So- please consider you all do not know enough about americans, our way of life, or our political situations as you all would like to think.

---------------
Only one comment on the "making of terrorist" comment above, my question:
If an American kills an Iraqi you say it makes 1000000x more terrorists, so I guess when a fellow Muslim detonates a car bomb and kills an Iraqi that this will create 1000000x anti-terrorists??

If one cannot see who is killing who these days, then no need for any further discussion from me.
---------------
I gather from the general views expressed, and the manner in which they are expressed here, that a majoirty of those posting are late teens to early twenties in age. Just as I did when I was but a young adult, you think you fully understand the world around you and have a total grasp on all the things that make it work. BUT I think you'll all learn, as I did, that as one matures, experiences more than one election or war in their memories, and learns to "listen" to ones elders as bit, you'll find things are not as clear cut as you all think.

Yeah you pretty much need control of the server, or some server companies will put it on for you. But it is generally more expensive. I'm basically a reseller and my on "source" offers it so that is my experience with it. As for installing and setting up, can't help you much there.

I have heard some mild complaints about Plesk, and have some complaints on CPannel from previous hosts.  What is your preferance (i didnt quite understand)

I'm not as familiar with cPanel, but it just seems sort of "clunky", unfinished. Trying to avoid the best analogy (Mac GUI vs. Win GUI smile ), so lets say the comparison is like NT3.5.1 (cPanel) and Win XP (Plesk). I prefer the clean and very intuitive interface of plesk that covers everything I need. cPanel is a bit of a hassle switching control panels for different domains, and WHM is awful (for me) to work with.

I guess they both do the same thing, and I've heard cPanel has a lot more "features", but for me I just prefer the Plesk interface and functionality. Naturally the Plesk accounts are more expensive, and people don't always want to pay for the nice interface, I don't mind.... (similar to using eNom API vs PDQ site)....

are you releasing the code anytime soon? i love it, even more then the one im working on sad.

It may be awhile...doing a lot of traveling until feb or so... but I do get to work on it evenings from the hotel... But will be spring probably until a beta. Plus after going through the phpCOIN dev for 2 years, kind of got a taste of how crazy it can get. May just offer to those interested.
