Hi,
I am running a punBB with about 140.000 posts and 500.000 registered users (some proabably bots). It is running PunBB 1.2.15.

My challenge is that I have made some small modifications to it. I do for instance use the user database in punBB as user registering on my site.

I have major spam problems and I really miss some better spam handling tools, like first post approval. Is there a way of getting such tools without upgrading to 1.4.

Is there any way of doing a clean 1.4 installastion running in prallell, and then copying users and posts (and maybe even templates) to the new forum. Making sure everything runs before swithing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did not think about the possibility of making some of them administrator (the former forum I used, had just one administrator and multiple moderators).

Currently it is just 1-2 messages a day(human and bots), so it is really more of an annoyance than a real problem right now. I guess Ill have to look at more effective ways if it escalates.

Thanks a lot.

I have a site with 10 forums, each having 1-2 moderators.

I have been having some spam problems lately, and often the moderators notice this first in other forums than where they have permission to moderate.

Is there a way of letting all moderators have permission to delete messages. Also in forums they do not moderate?

I feel that making everybody administrator in every forum, would just make it unclear who has the main responsibility.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense.

Then I guess there is no straight forward ways of fixing this (apart from doing a replace in the db or adding an uppercase version of the parser).

Thanks a lot for your help.

I see the preparse_bbcode function, and I have modified that myself.

But is it being called every time someone views a post? Or just when someone posts?

I just double checked. I can definately see the old BBTags in the forum. Reloading does not change it. But if I go to "edit" and just submits it once again, it is parsed correctly.

Strange.

If I go to an "unformatted" post and click "edit" and then "submit" (without doing any editing), the problem is fixed. Unfortunately there are very many posts that needs to be clicked.

To me it seems like a kind of caching, but I am not sure, and have not been able figure it out by studying the db.

I have made some small changes to the BBCode-interpreter. Added an extra tag that I used in a forum I converted from.

Works fine on new post, but some of the old posts also have this code. It seems like the formatting of the posts are cached - but not in the cache directory.

Is there a way to "re-parse" all of the posts?

Thanks a lot for the help Strofanto.

Just wanted to report in that migrating from FUDforum to SMT, and then from SMT to PunBB worked great. Users and post converted without any problems. There where a few problems converting stuff like polls and attachments, but it was of no importance to me.

Saved me several hours of work.

Maybe thats not necessary. I found a FUD-converter to SMF1.1.

There are a converter from SMF1.05 to PunBB. Not an exact match, but I guess it is as close as it gets.

Thanks.

VB? Do you have a link?

I am migrating a fairly large forum from FUDForum to PunBB. I notice there are no conversion tools available.

I have however been able migrate most of the data manually, but are having problems moving the messages. It is difficult to understand the logic in how FUDForum stores these, and you really cant expect the FUDForum community to help you out.

Anyone have any experience migrating from FUDForum?
