I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet (or maybe they have).

/* IEWin Font Size only - to allow IEWin to zoom. Do not remove comments \*/
HTML .pun {FONT-SIZE: 68.75%}
/* End IE Win Font Size */

makes the text in IE 6 PC (WinXP SP2) illegible.

Here's a screenshot.

I had to comment it out. And changing the text size from Medium to anything else does nothing with that "fix" in.

Anyone else notice that?

of course I use Firefox but I just happened to check it out in IE.

oh and I should've posted this in bugs.. please move.  my bad.

fixed it from this thread:

http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6258

but Rickard it doesn't work on the first try.  only when

define('PUN_TURN_OFF_MAINT', 1);

is put into the config does turn_maintenance_mode_off.php suddenly work.

upgrading from 1.1.5 to 1.2  - success

1.2 to 1.2.1 - success

then i accidently closed the browser while in maintenance mode.

I ran the turn_off_maintenance_mode.php script, but it still shows me in maintenance mode.

help! thanks!

lol it was never intended to work on 1.1.5 and also, 1.1.5 doesn't have plugins, you will need to upgrade first

yeah what I said about the obvious.. smile

thanks connor.  i was waiting until you fixed a few more bugs on the PM system before i dove in.  how's that coming?

I don't have 1.2.x installed yet (currently using 1.1.5), but I'm trying to run the news generator and i'm getting:

No input file specified.

(and I'm supposed to be going to /forum/plugins/AP_News_Generator/AP_News_Generator.php, correct?)

i feel like i'm missing the obvious.

thanks!

so about that news module.. smile

And honestly you're silly if you don't update to SP2.  it's a lot more stable than when it first came out, and has better wireless networking controls.  There have been a few patches and fixes that have stabilized it.

The new added security features are great for the noobs, and can easily be turned off for the advanced users.

Well this forces everyone to go to SP2, I refuse to install a service pack that makes my online experience run slower.

are you talking about Event ID 4226 that can easily be patched? otherwise, i don't know what you're talking about.

nice.  thanks connor!

where will you be posting that it's finished?

Doesn't work.  I have a user named:

You're_as_good_as_dead

and when PMing (clicking PM link and submiting), i get the message:

There's no user with that username.

Also, when searching for You're* in the userlist, I get the error:

Error: Unable to search for user

Rickard problem or Chacmool problem?

you're right: my request for an email on a PM requires an entirely different mod.

roll

we can run in circles all day, but I think there's enough people that think the option to turn on/off email notifications of PMs is something that would be greatly welcomed.

And PM is a great way to remain anonymous if need be. Private messaging is a great way for us to communicate in private without revealing our contact info. People can converse in private without revealing an email address or personal name if they want.

That is probably the only "pro PM" opinoin I've heard so far that I agree with 100%.

Well yeah that's a given - we're not arguing that.

that's the reason we have a PM system in the first place - otherwise it would just be an email.

We're not even arguing "pro-PM" or not.

it's the to-email-on-PM-or-not-to-email-on-PM that we're discussing here.

focus people! smile

and is chacmool purposely avoiding this thread?

i just realized you can turn off avatars. yay!

however, that is more justifiable for most people.

but why? because it's a nice convenience.

like right now, for instance.  i am working, i got an email saying someone replied to this topic that i've subscribed to, and I go to the site.

why can't the same be done for PM's, which are based on the same principle? it seems silly to say no to one and yes to another, when they serve the same purpose - to let you know that you need to go visit the site now. they're both convenient.

are they both absolutely necessary?  no.  yet one is praised and another is panned.

Besides that, on a large comunity site, what would the load be on the mail server each time a PM was submitted.  I get enough spam as it is. That counter to the punbb philosophy.  If PM is going to be a mod, then simple notification on the site is all that I think would be required.  (e.g. Logged in as Rickard, you have X # of new messages)

load considerations should be make by the person running the bb, and i think it should be an admin option to turn on/off emailed PM notifications.

where the heck is chacmool to talk about this? smile

edit: also as a user, you should be able to choose to turn OFF email notifications of PMs.

what's silly is annoying animated .gif avatars. wink

we might as well get rid of topic subscriptions too.  why would I want to get an email that someone responded to a topic when I can just visit the forum and check myself?

that's my point.. the only difference is the labeling.  one's private, one's public.

Hey all,

since I've integrated the forum into my design, can I remove the other styles in the /style folder, and will it auto-check to see what styles are available when the user goes to change their style?  or will it error because their style is no longer there, or default to the board default?

having them pick another style other than what i've modified and set as default will produce ugly results. smile

well, you need a mySQL database and PHP running on your web host's server.

you should have a database name, datasbase location and password for your mySQL database that you set up with your host provider.

it's the same principal with your images as it is with your include files, assuming you have an /images/ folder in the root of your home directory.

so on your .tpl page, either make the links to the images an absolute url:

http://www.your.site.com/images/image.jpg

or relative to the site root where the images folder is:

../images/

thank you! smile

Hey all,

I run a Mark Kozelek (singer/songwriter for Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon) site, and I've integrated PunBB 1.1.5 into the design. I'm waiting on the PM mod to upgrade to 1.2.

http://www.sadreminders.com/interaction/index.php

yeah i was curious about 1.2 PM as well.  chacmool?

and I'm glad someone else understands why emailing a PM notification is helpful. smile

lament: But wouldn't that argue that if you don't visit it every day you should have the person email you, which you DO check every day, versus having the equivalent of x number of extra email accounts that tell your regular email account when to check them?

true, but i can't control whether they email me or PM me.  i like to give my users the option, and like to HAVE that option as well.  smile

Talikar wrote:

So, lament, you're saying that you'd rather do everything based off e-mail?

no, that's not what I'm saying.  let me re-clarify:

not everyone goes to each and every forum they've subscribed to every day.

if i get an email saying I have a private message, it acts as a reminder to check out the forum and check your private message - just as subscribing to a topic and getting an email lets me know that someone has responded to the topic. it acts as a reminder to check the topic because someone has responded.

That defeats the purpose of PMs and they shouldn't be used at all. If you absolutely "need" an e-mail confirmation than the guy might as well not send PMs at all and just use the e-mailing script.

see above.

My point being that PM's are for on board messenging only, e-mail is not required and would just add useless coding, slowing down the PM system (just slightly). So in my opinion it's not needed. If you want e-mail use the e-mail script, if you want to PM someone use the PM function. tongue

they're 2 separate functions: the PM script for on board messaging - true.  the email script for carrying on conversations OUTSIDE of the board - true. i'm not debating this fact.

I'm asking for a email reminder that someone has PM'd me - that's it. This helps out those people who don't visit each of their subscribed forums every day.

Again, it's helpful because not everyone visits each and every forum that they're subscribed to every day.  So if someone PM'd me from a forum, I'd like to know so I can log in and check that PM.
