You would have to ask your hosting company about that :)

Go PunBB!!!

It's at times like this you want a smiley that's blushing :)

This has been requested before. However, it's not something that is implemented in an hour. I have yet to see a fast, scalable and pretty solution to the problem. We'll see. I'll put it on the wishlist for 1.2 :)

Yeah, just like vbulletin.

By that you mean vBulletin 3 right? vBulletin 2.x works almost identical to the way PunBB works.

Yes, the install script should definately create all necessary tables and columns. I really can't tell from here what might be wrong. It almost looks as if you have a database layout from PunBB 1.0/1.0.1 and is trying to run the scripts from 1.1. Are you sure you didn't upgrade from an older version or something?

Something that would help in tracking down the problem is a dump of the database structure. You can export such a dump in tools such as phpMyAdmin and MySQL Control Center (if you have access to them). Just post it here and we'll have some more info to go on.

Edit the template files in include/template/. You could add a div around all the forum content. Insert the following after "<body<pun_body>>":

<div style="width: 800px; margin: auto">

And then the following before "</body>

</div>

Well, it must be related to the bulgarian charset. I'm sorry, I actually don't know how to do it. Do you know if it is specific to PunBB or have you encountered the problem in other forums as well?

I just hid the user post count in Admin: Options. It said it would affect the user list (see below), but the new user list still shows post counts for each person. It does remove the post count in topic view, however.

Show user post count
Show the number of posts a user has made (affects topic view, profile and userlist).

The setting doesn't affect admins and mods. Log out and you will see that it doesn't display it. However, as you pointed out, the post count doesn't show up in viewtopic even as admin, so that's a bug though. I'll fix it.

CSpotkill wrote:

How about adding an Admin: Statistics page, with pie charts for email preference, style usage, user post counts and maybe graphs for post frequency, user post count vs date registered, instant messenger preference, hourly forum usage and a list of terms people searched for?

I'm planning some kind of module system for the admin interface in PunBB 1.2. Once that's in place, making a statistics module should be easy.

I know. It's a lot easier to simply allow some tags ... or to restrict it. I'm thinking of using the avatar scripts and making a variation for signature images, maybe allowing flash to be uploaded as well. All people wanted the HTML for was to post a Flash signature, or to use ASCII art. Creating options for both in Profile and keeping HTML disabled would be more secure. Any plans on doing this, or should I write a mod?

What you could do is to add two new BBCode tags: [flash] and [ascii] (or something). It shouldn't be that hard.

Test: ?

I copied it from charmap.exe and it worked. However, it that doesn't work, you should be able to force it by entering ? (without the space after #).

Mata Jean-Paul just sent me a French language pack for PunBB 1.1. The translation is based on the old language pack for 1.0 by Denis Labat. Thanks!

Update 2004-01-09: Uploaded an updated version from Denis Labat.

I have one problem with the new version, I can't read any posts ;) The update script worked well and didn't report any errors, but when I try the enter a topic a get the following message:

File: /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/forum/viewtopic.php
Line: 77

PunBB reported: Unable to fetch topic info
Database reported: Unknown column 'subscribers' in 'field list' (Errno: 1054)

That would mean that you are using an old version of viewtopic.php. You must have forgotten it during the update or something.

Very nice. Very nice indeed :)

Hmm, that's odd. Even if there were only 2631 posts, it should be 119 pages.

Could you perhaps provide a link to the forum so I can check it out? If you don't like posting it here, maybe you can e-mail it to me?

Maybe you could make that a vCard (which can be represented as XML easily).  It supports most basic information BB profiles usually contain.

Excellent. I'll have a look at it.

It's not something you do in a few minutes. I'm planning to add support for some kind of news integration in PunBB 1.2. See here.

I still have the problem with the text on top of page:

onLoad="document.getElementById('login').req_username.focus()"

Any quick soulutions to fix this??

Well, I asked you if you could e-mail me the full source of the page. I can't help until I get that.

Well, no. There isn't a problem. 2364/20 equals 118,2. That means that 118 pages will not be enough to show all posts. Thus, 119 pages are required.

Well, not really. I have a few things I want to do for the next major version of PunBB though. Here's what's on the list so far:

- Make it possible to download your profile as an XML document (or something). If you then want to register in another PunBB forum, you could just upload your profile.xml to that forum and you won't have to fill out all the forms. I'm considering taking this up with other BB developers. Who knows, if there is interest, maybe we could agree on some kind of standard for this.

- Add SQLite support. SQLite is bundled with PHP5 so more or less everyone will have access to it in a year or so when PHP5 is widespread. On top of that, SQLite is really cool :)

- Implement simple file-based caching of persistant and semi-persistent data. What this means is to cache e.g. the forum configuration or the "Jump to" menu to a file instead of fetching it from the database and generating it every page view.

- Make everything work with error level E_ALL. This means I should stop using unintialized variables. Not sure about this one.

- Make it possible to use PunBB as a news service (or something). See this topic.

In admin_users.php, there's no field to search for MSN Messenger ;)

Noted. Will fix for next version :)

CSpotkill wrote:

And it would be great if I could filter based on email preference, ie. disabled, but allow form, enabled, etc. That way I could see how many people use the new feature ...

I can see how that would be interesting in some cases. However, if I add that, I fear I must also add the option to sort by all the other option fields in the profile. I'm a bit sceptical on this.

CSpotkill wrote:

Finally, some are complaining about the lack of HTML in their sigs. (I enabled it in 1.0.1 but it's disabled now and the option's disappeared.) The perfect solution, in my mind, would be to have some kind of "trusted" level, not moderators, but a level to allow HTML in sigs, and possibly in posts as well. Of course, if I could just re-enable HTML in everyone's sigs, that would be a good compromise. ;)

To enable HTML in signatures, just comment out line 345 in include/parser.php. It should look like this:

$message = pun_htmlspecialchars($message);

However, there is nothing stopping people from doing "evil things" when HTML is enabled. They could for example just enter </table> in their signature and then the whole page layout would be messed up. They could also use the script tag to run JavaScripts and other undesirable things.

Have you really added the new CSS classes to your custom styles like the install documentation says?

Look at the post by TwaN above. That's the way it should look.

Edit: I'm in a good mood today, so I did it for you. Just add the following to your custom css-file(s):

TABLE.punspacer {
    border: none;
    width: 100%
}
.punedited {
    font-size: 10px;
    font-style: italic;
}
.punheadline {
    font-size: 12px;
    font-weight: bold;
}
