Make it public (loginless), offer limited login to people who want to, offer public registration (so we will have two logins, big deal, we already have countless for countless internet service). After the 1.3 final public release, there will be time to tighten things up.

I have a latest revision public install of Pun1.3, but the rewriting-url part doesn't work for most of the things yet, so it's not usable. If you really want to, you can check it out: http://pun13.dorem.info

Re: PunBB Holiday Present for Us? (12 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
How do I sign up to submit a ticket or an error. I have noticed that v1.3 does not save the time and date format changes when a user wishes to change them.
I have a couple too, and some comments on some tickets. Rickard was working on a auth integration between PunBB and Trac, but no news since. Less than 20 days

The end of the year is near... hat eating ?
More seriously, without at least a couple of weeks of intensive public beta testing, things might get tough.

Urk, I don't like it. It's real slow, it's narrow and fixed width. Not my cup of tea.

Beside, PM is a bad idea altogether (wy invent again the email ??). For those of us who don't want it, as an extension/plugin it's ideal, everyone could find it's own answer.

I'm currently working on integrating the forum login with the trac login. I'll announce when we can start using the tracker.
Any news ?

Lots of people who speak english as an additional language swap Vs and Ws I find.
I guess it depends on the natives. It's not a common mistake for French native speaking English for example. I work (in English) with Germans, and I haven't seen that one either.

Re: Rickard "is afraid" (26 replies, posted in General discussion)
It's a language trick, a very common one. And not only in English and Swedish, but others countries as well. For example the *same* expression exist in French, with the same meaning. It has various means, depending on the exact context, but they mostly aren't strong one, that doesn't change the sentence or the original meaning.

You need to backup (mysqldump) your forum database, and then move it up into the new database.

Re: openWYSIWYG (17 replies, posted in General discussion)
Note that I use everyday a vBulletin forum with a fancy wysiwyg editor, and it's bloated and slow, but slooooow. I have a 10Mb/s 4ms internet line, the server is quite appropriate, and it's not uncommon to have a several seconds hang before the wysiwyg editor's javascript finish to load and initialize.
And beside, any improvement in the text typing/input area would have to focus on semantics. And that's a subject where most of the graphic editors are worst than everything.

Re: openWYSIWYG (17 replies, posted in General discussion)
Not that I know of. And this one would be impossible as it generates HTML =/
And not very good HTML either.
That always has been something strange for me. How can one know so much Javascript (or PHP, or whataver) and not know the maybe 15 or 20 appropriate (x)HTML tag syntax, and two only two appropriate DTD ?

Compared to other sitemap generator I had to use (from Mediawiki to Textpattern... well, kinda for the later), yours is by far (and I mean FAR) the simplest and quickest to install, and yet the easiest to tweak and it gets the job done perfectly.

Well, then if swapping .*? by .* or .+ does the trick, no more bug in that area for know, only features

Re: 1.3 500 Internal Server Error (22 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
With /?* at the end (instead of my proposal of /*$) no HTTP500 either. It seems to work the same.
But either way, it doesn't rewrite the URL. If I go to userlist I am in /users/, but if I decide to filter the list with some criteria I'm moved to /userlist.php?username=&show_group=2&sort_by=registered&sort_dir=DESC&search=Submit for example.
I don't know if it's a code issue (no rewrite yet done on this, the rewriterule in .htaccess is justa placeholder) or a .htaccess rewrite bug (as far as I know it's the former, it's PHP code task to generate a "clean" URL).
I have however other issues with the clean URL, for example /search/ gives me a "No input file specified." error, as well as all admin's sub menu (/admin/*/)
I'll wait for the ticket system opening to report it.

Re: 1.3 500 Internal Server Error (22 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
Ok, I may have found it (well, someone on my host ML did would be more appropriate )
RewriteRule ^users/(<0-9\->+)/(<a-z_>+)/(<a-zA-Z>+)/(.*)/page/(<0-9>+)/*$ userlist.php?show_group=$1&sort_by=$2&sort_dir=$3&username=$4&p=$5 [L,NC]
No HTTP500.
Could some rewrite guru check it, and see if that still does the trick?
The way I understood it, ? in regexp are for PCRE only, and Apache rewrite are posix regexp.

Re: FAQ: Copyright (68 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
Huhuhu.
Well, I wasn't really focused on the copyright notice. For me, it's the same as the "Powered by PUnBB" notice. I think sometimes one can want or need to remove it, or to alter it (not to attribute it to himself, but for example I've altered it to translate it into French); but if not (and most people don't need to) one can let Rickard's name on.

Re: FAQ: Copyright (68 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
By licence, he can't (well he can, but ask only, nothing more). He can do this for support, but then someone would have to give support each and every time.
I rather find the current way of things quite good, I don't see why would someone want to change it.

It seems Smartys was interested, so with r626 I have the same thing. HTTP 500 that goes away if I comment out that RewriteRule. I'm under Apache 1.3.37
