Hi Anatoly,
many thanks, your proposed update method worked like a dream. All I need to do now is install the anti-spam plugins and open the forum again.

Hi Anatoly,
many thanks, your proposed update method worked like a dream. All I need to do now is install the anti-spam plugins and open the forum again.
Many thanks for your hard work.
I followed the steps in the wiki.
I then typed in the forum home page in the browser, clicked the db_update.php link which only partially loads.
The source code of the resulting page:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en" dir="ltr">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>PunBB Database Update</title>
The db does not seem to have been updated and the forum is now not accessible.
Any ideas on how I could resolve this?
We have recently been attacked by spammers similar to the discussion elsewhere in this forum. Your plugin helped us to remove about 300 users.
A request would be to add a sort option so as to view the list of users based on the time they register.
Many thanks for your work on this.
We are getting a number of hits in our forum with referring address pointing to http://1/ . On digging deeper the hits come from different ips and from what seems to be isps which include: rr.com, patmedia.net and arcor-ip.net .
Does anyone else have hits from that referrer? Is this a possible hacking attempt?
Thanks in advance.
it does not work on mine... any more suggestions ...
Whether it also has its legitimate uses I don't know.
This is my problem too.. I guess i have to leave the user there for a while to see what he does before I ban him.
Thanks Paul and Helter.
We had 2-3 new members lately whose email addesses end with
freefreemail.info
and
spambob.net
I know about spambob but freefreemail.info unexpectedly returns to google once typed in the address bar. Does anyone have any ideas about it?
Can anyone suggest a plugin which enables image upload in the latest punBB release?
Hi Paul sorry for not acknowledging you in my previous post. We were posting at the same time. I have posted for help in the simplepie forum and hopefully someone will respond
I'm not sure I understand. Looking at the topic ID's in the PunBB feed, the newest topics seem to be at the top.
Hi Rickard.
Now it is on the top as I am using the PunBB forum info plugin to parse the feed and not simplepie. After I posted the above I thought of trying other methods which seem to be working so I did edit my post as my suspicion is that the problem lies with simplepie whom I have contacted already and asking for their views there
>edit: typos
I have recently changed the front page of www.neme.org to display feeds from different parts of the site. To achieve that I am using textpattern, simplepie and a cron script to delete the cache once every 8 hours so as to allow new entries to be displayed (Don't ask... )
I am now faced with a problem regarding the feeds produced by punBB. Whereas the feeds produced by the textpattern installs in the site appear correctly (ie. Newest on top), punBB produces the feeds with the newest on the bottom. Furthermore, I am showing a limit of 10 titles and the newest entry does not appear either when using http://forum.neme.org/extern.php?type=R … ion=active or http://forum.neme.org/extern.php?type=R … action=new
Any help of how I can resolve this will be appriciated.
>Edit: I am currently using another txp plugin to display the forum and that works fine so I guess this is a simplepie problem

Is there a way to omit view count update from the administrator and own topics?
Does punBB allow (either directly or through a mod) members to 'withdraw' their membership? ie delete themselves from the user list?
That would make it a bug with Safari then not PunBB wouldn't it?
semantics:)
Seriously... In my experience Safari does not have that kind of behaviour to other redirect scripts
I use both safari 1.3 and FF1.5
In Safari the anchors to the posts are not working.
Description:
Quick reply to a topic.
In FF the page redirects and the anchor stops the page in the post just posted.
In Safari, after redirecting, the page just loads without taking notice of the anchor.
Minor bug but annoying nevertheless.
ps post permlinks (ie links like http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=68740#p68740 work just fine)
The fact that it has some overhead is not a problem. It just means that it occupies a bit more memory than it ideally could. The data in the online table is never stored to disk (it's a "HEAP" table), so if you really wanted to get rid of the overhead, you could restart MySQL.
Hi Rickard, thanks for the response
I am hosted in textdrive. This is not a localhost database. Is it possible for me to restart mySQL when it is hosted?
Online table does not accept to be either repaired or optimised in phpMyAdmin
This is the message I get for repair table:
The storage engine for the table doesn't support repair table
and this for optimise table
The storage engine for the table doesn't support optimize table
The particular table currently has an overhead.
Can anyone advise me on how I can repair the overhead?
We have recently opened a forum on http://forum.neme.org . The forum was set up to discuss the Manifesta 6 cancellation. When we opened our forum the official forum of M6 was closing down and for a few days we were the only ones discussing the issue. On the 10th of this month M6 opened another forum on another address. Earlier today, in the now official new M6 forum, somebody raved about our location read here.
For this we wish to thank the developers of PunBB for their inspired GUI.
Hi smartys,
Thanks that was it. Feel like an idiot:)
Yesterday, I have moved the neme.org site to textdrive. Had a series of problems with textpattern but those are solved now. I have nevertheless have a major problem with punBB as it returns the following error:
An error was encountered
Error: Unable to connect to MySQL server. MySQL reported: Access denied for user '???'@'???.textdrive.com' (using password: YES).
For the move I used a mysql dumb from phpMyAdmin and imported it in the textdrive database. I have also updated the info in config.php.
The forum resided in a subdomain in the previous server so I wanted that to remain the same ( http://forum.neme.org ). Currently I am using textdrive's method for subdomains as described here.
Can someone please advise me on how I can get this forum back on line again?
Yes there is a number attached to each letter/character.
Hi paul, Any idea where I can find a list of those numbers attached to the characters?
ps. did you see my invite in the Show off forum?
I have copy/pasted the above script and seems to have reduced the errors. I'm determined to have this forum validating now
Another question which has to do with other non utf-8 characters
ie ? 8230 ellipsis
Can somebody please explain to me how to parse this one through?
I'm not sure how the char array works (ie chr(145),) is there a number attached to each character?
I'm trying to understand the logic of it so as to do the rest myself and stop pestering you people
You have a problem in IE6, specifically the vertical scrollbar is missing.
P.S. Totally off topic but do you know if they have finished the Limassol (Lemesos) flyover yet?
Hi Paul,
thanks for that. We had an ie6 conditional in one of our designs which we eventually scrapped but we forgot to remove the code for it. The scrollbar should be there for ie too now.
Re the flyover. It is actually 5 or 6 of them passing on the periphery road north of limassol. 2 of them have opened but there is still work happening on the ground level. The others are still under construction.
So you visited limassol huh? Hope you had an enjoyable time here.
