Re: Database Backed Up - Now What? (6 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I don't use prefixes for Punbb, but Mambo does use prefixes.
Should I just leave Punbb installed and running (it is uploaded to the FTP in a seperate folder so no files will be overwritten). Because Mambo uses prefixes can I just install it normally?
I assume if I just enter the database name as 'dolls' (same as my punbb) it will add the new tables to the database with the prefixes I specify?

Topic: Database Backed Up - Now What? (6 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I am planning on installing Mambo on my server but have a question about Punbbs database. My webhost provider only allows me to run one database which I currently use for Punbb. When I go to install Mambo I will need to use the database for that. I am very happy with punbb, and also dont want to lose all my registered users/posts. What do I need to do after I have backed up Punbb?
I assume it will be very complicated lol. When I go to install Mambo it will overwrite all my Punbb database wont it, or will it just add the extra tables needed for Mambo?
I am not allowing users to register with Mambo. The only registrations I want on my site are for the Punbb board
Sorry Im rambling, not sure how to word the problem. Anyone able to help? Thanks

Topic: No Login/Password Fields (13 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Hi,
A user on my forum (new-york-dolls.com/board/index.php) sent me this email with a problem I cant solve:
"I tried registering & then logging on starting Sunday, 5/1 and have made repeated attempts to no avail. I'm on a MAC and have gone through both AOL & Internet Explorer but so far no luck. I'm not even sure if my registration went through!"
I registered an account for her, sent her to 'login.php' page and asked her to login but her reply was:
"The same thing is happening once I clicked on the link you sent and I'm on the 'login' page - no box/boxes appear on screen where I can type in my username or password despite instructions that say: Enter your username and password below. The only box 'below' I do see (on the same line w/the copyright info) can't be typed into! Could this be a MAC-only issue? "
I asked her to delete cookies, it didnt resolve the issue. She turned off her firewall, it didnt resolve the issue. I searched this forum but couldnt find a similar problem - there was nothing in the FAQ.
Anyone able to help? Thanks

Re: Spacing (3 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Nope didnt work. Shoult it not be div.brdtitle instead of a # ?
Where abouts should I be putting this code? I put it in style/imports/spink_bb.css - Is this the right file? Which section should it be under?

I set my image header at 743px (the width of my site) but it has added space around the image.
How can I remove it?
Thank you

Yeh I will set that as the default (if not the only!) style available. Its not fully finished yet - trying to get black internal borders when viewing a post
Style will be released once finito'd.

Hi,
Special thanks to Paul for the unique mod and to connorhd for answering all our troubleshooting problems (there have been so many lol)
Now when entering a new topic users have the ability to enter a description of what the topic is about. A quick example screenshot is below:
Its damn cool. If a user doesn't enter a description it just states the author of the post & there is an 80-character limit on the description!

Topic: Integrated Punbb into your site? Post your link (60 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 modifications, plugins and integrations)
I have been working on integrating my punbb message board into my site and things have been going well so far. I just wanted a little inspiration or ideas from other integrators.
If your site and message board both have a similar style/theme please post your link if you dont mind me taking a look.
Thanks,
Will
-only posted this as I cant be bothered going through every single thread picking out all the links. Most of them are dead or changed now as I found out

Hey,
I was just wondering if a websites index had to be called index.htm?
I have a index.htm page that works as an entrance page to my site. It links to index2.php
Could I rename index2.php to index.php and still get picked up by Google?
Thanks

Topic: Small Problems - CSS Needs Editing? (1 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Question 1: How do I add a border around the row that says "NEW YORK DOLLS"?
So it looks like below:
Question 2: How do I get this row with the blue background to be filled in white?
Connorhd showed me how to change the code at the top of the page, but I am unsure what the code is to change the bottom bit. Its just because the links are too hard to read.

Re: Very Difficult Problem - Maybe this is a mod I need? (10 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Thank you very much Paul, much appreciated. Your suggestion to edit 'last post' widths will be used as will adding the "Fred said:" idea
As for:
If that is text which doesn't already exist then you are going to need an extra field in the topic table (I think), somewhere to enter it in the post and edit forms, an alteration to the query in viewforum.php and a change in the markup to display it.
The alternative would be to add a query to get the post text of the first post in the topic and then display the first x characters from the post. Either way you need somebody who knows more about php and sql than I do.
Would anyone be able to create this for me? I have displayed above what I would like the end result to look like but this is what I had in mind for entering the description:
Preferably a character limit on the description - say 80 characters? Any thoughts people?

Topic: Very Difficult Problem - Maybe this is a mod I need? (10 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Hi,
I don't know if this is a mod request or if I actually just need to add some extra code? Heres the problem:
I have edited the style sheet on my board to match that of my site (www.new-york-dolls.com). The new style has not been uploaded for public viewing yet. I wanted the boards maximum width to be 743 px wide (which connorhd kindly showed me how to do). But now I have threads looking messy like below:
Long user names get pushed onto two lines and now some rows are bigger than others as you see. Is it possible to make my forum look like the image below (without the pink line doodled across it lol)
The message title (red, bold) is on one line, and underneath the user can enter a description about what the thread is about (Just entered as normal text). At the other side of the board you see I have got the date/time of last post above the name of the person who posted it.
Is this possible to do? Any suggestions?

Topic: EDIT: Background Problem (another Prob) (2 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Edit: Connorhd sorted out my original problem (see below) but how do I repeat the process for changing the background colour for the links at the bottom of the page? Again it is just the Page Numbers, Back to Index link, and Post New Topic link. Anyone know the code? Thanks
Yep it's me with yet another problem
My new style has been edited to suit my site design but when inside a forum you can't see the 'page number' links or the link back to 'index' - well you can see them but they're hard to read. Is there any way I can change just that line to have a white background to help make the links stand out more?
Ideally this is what I am wanting the finished result to look like.
Any ideas on how to go about this?

lol happy now? I've turned caps lock off and even went to the immense trouble of editing my original post I assumed this forum would have changed the Admin Options to disallow all CAPS in subject titles...
Thanks for the help connorhd, much appreciated.

Topic: Problem Solved : Ignore Message (3 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I have created a new style sheet for my message board but would like to know how I go about changing the message boards overall width. If you look at my site you will see the site is no bigger than 743 px wide.
Please let me know which files need to be changed and if possible the 'line number' within the file.
Regards,
Will
