Thats not true, you just have to mod PunBB up a little until you get a decent site, for example, My Friend  Reines and I run a small community here http://www.syi.cc, at the time of me writing this, the forum stats are as follows:

...but not everyone is willing to spend the time to mod their forum - I am, and obviously you are, but some people seem to be afraid of code (of course, the extension system in 1.3 should change things quite a bit).

I was speaking of a mostly stock install of each, but of course you're right (though please remember that I never said that PunBB could not be used for such a purpose, just that it might not be the best choice - although that is purely a matter of opinion), with significant modding, PunBB could be an extremely feature-rich forum app to rival vBulletin (but along the same lines, I could also say that with "significant modding" a piece of simple guestbook software from the 90s could be made into feature-rich forum software, could I not? wink)

That depends what you mean by 'activate'.

Extern.php is to be used like an RSS feed.

Or as HTML to be included in another file. wink

hnstmn: Take a look a the docs.

your viewforum.php (and not viewtopic.php like you said wink ) is allright!

That was probably my mistake when I fixed up his post to use code instead of quote tags. Sorry!

Have you added "uploader" to the language file yet?

Appears to be a mod problem rather than a bug in core PunBB, moved to modifications.

Remove the bold BBCode at the end of the line.

Assuming you already know how to use the IMG BBCode and you are instead asking how to let users upload images to your server, I think that the Image Upload mod is what you're seeking.

uT)Dev1L : what is sub-forum mod users?

I think he is asking for a readme and installer specifically for users of the other sub forum mod, so that he can easily switch to yours.

Unfortunately, that still leaves you with significant security holes.

Have you tried using the hdiff?

Why the people will use PunBB and no other BB?

It's not a matter of PunBB being superior to all other forum software - because it isn't. It all depends on what you want from your forum, and the preferences of you and your users. Check out PunBB's about page. If you like what you hear, then yes, PunBB is probably the best choice for you. It all depends on what you want to do. For most sites that want a fast, easily used forum, PunBB is great. However, if you want a forum software including "everything but the kitchen sink" PunBB might not be the best choice. If you're looking to create a large site based solely around the forum and want a ton of features, a great, fully featured board you might look at is vBulletin (just be warned, it will take up a lot more resources than PunBB, and is not free). And if you want to get hacked, phpBB might be just the software for you. tongue

These couple sentences from the about page pretty much sum things up.

Developing software to "please the masses" isn't difficult. Just cram in every possible feature you can think of and most people will love it. Some people, however, will hate it and look for alternatives.

... PunBB is one of those alternatives.

And like af3 said, you have to see it for yourself. You're using a PunBB forum right now. If you like it as a user, then most likely you'll like it as an admin.

Moved to general discussion (a counter could be used on PunBB, though it might not necessarily, and I didn't get the impression that you wanted something exlusively for PunBB). If my logic in moving the topic was flawed please let me know.

Anyway, I agree with bodhisattva, BBClone is pretty nice. If you decide to use it, I posted a messy thread about using it on PunBB awhile back.

Elzar, please be civil. I understand your annoyance or even anger towards bodhisattva (I have to admit I'm been more than a bit peeved at him too), but that is no reason to get this thread off-topic. Please, if you have any grievances to address with him, do so in private.

Edit: bodhisattva, also please try to be polite back, despite any problems you may have with what Elzar has said. Crude language will do nothing but further escalate the situation (the "not trying to kiss anybody's a**" part).

Please email its author.

Hehe, apparently you guys are hackers:

Due to some problems we had with the last hosting provider, I decided to switch to a dedicated server I have purchased today, so there will be no more problems. Also, the provider of the hosting informed me of some report existing for the new server, but I explained kindly the situation with the "hackers", so, he understood everything and assured me of his support. Do not try to do this anymore, it's futile.

Sounds about right.

IMHO, that picture indicates that either a) this particular twelve-year-old has undergone some strange "super-puberty" after falling into a vat of toxic animal lard, resulting in a rapid metamorphosis to adult form, or b) that's not his real picture. big_smile
