I love your style you have now. Why change? Anyway! I am still learning myself. I can't help.

Well, it is a commonly used style, and I want something of my own.

Just want to get an idea:

Would anyone with good design skills be willing to make a new style for my forum in exchange for Blogshares chips, cash, or shares (or a combination of the three)? In case your wondering - this is my payment method because I am not comfortable PayPal-ing complete strangers, but I've got no problem parting with my Blogshares stuff.

Anyway, I'm just trying to get a general idea about whether anyone's willing. Post a reply if interested & I'll supply more details about what I need, payment, etc.

Cross posted.

pogenwurst, well personally i don't like your defaut theme as it is too wide.

Yes, I'm looking to either make a style of my own or get someone else to make one in the near future. I like the default style (Kontrast), but it is used on too many other forums.

Its like PunBB.org if you came and all you got was the forums and you have to go into news and find the release for a link to the download (there are alot of sites like that) then half the people would just go "huh?" and leave tongue

Ok, I have Puntal mostly set up at:
[link removed]

Besides the fact that I need to un-Frenchify some text and reorder the blocks along the side, any suggestions?

Good idea - I was gonna set up Puntal, but got sidetracked. Now that I see your reasoning, I'll put in a little more effort. Thanks Connorhd!

I agree with you totally Rickard - though I forgot to mention, we do have one cartoon up.

More specifically, what are some ways that have worked for you to:
a) get people to visit your forums
b) get people to register
c) get them to come back

See, *technically* my forums are for the cartoons my brother & I make (well, it didn't start out that way, but it doesn't matter), but, as my brother and I are both generally very busy, we haven't made much headway on the toon issue. We probably won't until Thanksgiving or Christmas. Regardless, I would like to get an at least somewhat active community going in the meantime.

Please give me any input you have. Feel free to look at them (click the link in my sig or the website link) and give ANY (you won't hurt my feelings, don't worry) constructive (as in not "ur forum blows i gonna HacK dem") criticism you can offer.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Heh...sorry for the confusion.

Ok. I just wasn't sure. The "But the truth is" part kind of tripped me up.

I'm just plain sick of those kind of arguments. The number of security bugs doesn't matter. It's the severity of those bugs, how long it takes to patch them (if they are patched at all), and how those bugs are exploited by hackers and purveyors of spyware, adware, etc.

True.

But the truth is that Microsoft is very, very lax when it comes to security. In fact, they just recently skipped a security upgrade and rolled it over to the following month. Was it because there weren't any fixes? No...Actually, there were a few critical fixes that would prevent more browser hijacking.
It was sheer laziness.

The Moz people are on top of things. Errors are discovered and fixed very promptly. And usually aren't *that* severe. Nothing as bad as IE anyways. That what you get for grafting the browser so closely to the OS.

Just to clarify things, I said what I said in support of Firefox (I probably should have been a bit more clear). I'm not sure if you understood that or not. I agree with you totally.

It must be a server configuration issue since it has, as far as I know, never happened on for example this website.

Sorry to contracdict you Rickard, but in this thread, didn't you say this?

Rickard wrote:

I'm to blame for that. I'm sorry. For some reason, you appeared twice in the online list and this caused your posts to be displayed twice (a side-effect of the online list bug). I think I know what is causing the problem and I will investigate.

Unfortunately, no. sad

Ok Netfirms got back to me:

Thank-you for your e-mail inquiry.

PHP's gethostbyname() function will return the internal IP for your webserver (192.0.34.166).  When the actual IP for your webserver is 66.244.251.18.  Unfortunately, we will be unable to make any modifications to the server configuration at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Does anyone know how to work around this? Is there an alternative function the mod can use?

As I'm not to familiar with FreeBSD, perhaps someone else here could help out with this (which seems to be the cause of the problem):

Ok, I just sent my host (Netfirms) a support inquiry:

There is reason to believe that a problem (http://se.php.net/manual/en/function.ge … .php#30852) with PHP\'s getbyhostname() function & FreeBSD is causing a malfunction in a mod (http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8941&p=1) I have installed on my PunBB (http://punbb.org/) forum.

Is this an issue known to Netfirms? Is there any way you can fix it?

I'll let you know about their response once I receive it.

Thanks for beta testing wink feel free to remove my admin access.

Do you want your account deleted, or do you want to keep it?

Thanks, your fix worked.

Any thoughts on the admin panel issue? I'm leaving your admin access for now in case you want to look into that. (EDIT: oops, ignore that, Azakur4 already addressed it).

On a side note, while on my forums, did you see this error a lot? http://mcawesome.hysellstuff.com/forum/ … php?id=126

I guess... I don't really have much reason not to trust you, and I just made a DB backup anyway.

Will be done in a sec.

I have phpmyadmin access but I'm not too good at it, so I used your DB Management plugin. The query didn't return any results.

BTW, PM system worked fine before upgrade.

Several of these are available via extern.php

This was discussed a bit in this thread:
http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8894

Coincidentally, I thought a bit about making a mod for it yesterday, but now that I think about it, it's doubtful. Like Smartys said, it seems to be more trouble than its really worth. If I ever attempt it, don't expect it anytime soon.
