in every plugin there is a text file explaining how to to install the mod. sum are simple and sum are very difficult to install.
i would start with something simple so that you can get the hang of it. you will need sometype of editor .
dreamweaver,notepad etc.....

you can signup and down load there lastest version.. and see what changes they did to the misc.php..

the css files are located in the styles folder.
style.css controls the padding etc.
style_cs.css controls the color images etc.

check out http;//punres.org go to there styles section and see if there is a style that is something that you want to use.
