That's awesome!
According to this document, the ISO Latin 1 usage of the soft hyphen:
A graphic character that is imaged by a graphic symbol identical with, or similar to, that representing hyphen, for use when a line break has been established within a word.
So:
The soft hyphen is pretty irrelevant in HTML documents, since normally one should not divide a word into two lines in HTML.
So in printed documents it is used to restore the integrity of a word that has been divided into lines, and its use is discouraged in HTML. In which case, it makes sense to strip its use altogether - in post messages as well as other places.
What are your ideas on possible solution?
As far as I know, it's the only character that can have this effect.
I'm no coder, but I presume all you would have to do is put some script somewhere to replace with – or —.
I made a topic in Test Forum just now so that you can see what I mean.
If you enter Alt+0173 into a topic title, post message, or presumably anywhere in PunBB, you can bypass the validation of 'required fields'.
First Google result to help explain: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Alt-0173

I'm not sure if there's anyway to protect against that, but I thought I'd post it anyhow.
Cool, thanks Anatoly!
I don't quite understand what user_timezone, post_draft and e_mail_authorization do. Could you, or someone else, elaborate?
(this was not so easy: extern.php cannot be included directly and had to be modified. Will this point change in 1.3?)
That's actually not true, if you set $_GET properly it can. However, yes, we have planned to add some more useful internal syndication features (at least as an official extension, if not as part of the core).
I would guess that there will be some sort of News Generator too: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=18490
Dunno, though I found a topic where this has already been asked: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=18634
by the way is http://punbb.informer.com/forums/profile.php?id=12152 a new owner ... just asking
Yes (I think). He is also helping to code the project - I've seen a couple of commits from him.
Meh, I guess this will make no difference whatsoever.
Is "weeks to go" Valve time or ...?
This topic doesn't appear on the Homepage, by the way.
5 changesets just to do one thing?!
Isn't this part of the idea of PunXS? The 1.3 version of PunRes.
Thank you very much I know it's nothing 'fancy' as such, but the File Based one was called 'Fancy', so I was just following suit
So what about having http://example.com/forum/1-test-forum/?
"Folder Based (Fancy)" could have http://example.com/forum/test-forum/ or http://example.com/forum/1-test-forum/ rather than http://example.com/forum/1/. The "File Based" option has this available, why can't the "Folder Based" option have it too?
Personally, I do not see the point in having the forum ID in the URL at all so I would prefer "/test-forum" rather than "/1-test-forum".
Could you not use the tabindex attribute?
I would prefer to have extension files uploaded to the forum root. But I gather that people see that as ugly/inconvenient/less organised/etc. So I think a direct link would be best. Saves putting load on the server from using loader.php, I guess.
Any update on this? Being considered at all?
I don't understand what you mean
As in moderators can post censored words or can view censored words?
1. I shouldn't think there's much in it from an end user's point of view, though presumably 1.3 has been optimised.
2. Yes, you will never need to edit PunBB's core files.
3. Presumably the developers have some sort of time-scale in mind. But essentially it'll be when all the known bugs are fixed and desired features added.
Remove space in "domain. com"
I guess it should be example.com.

Not in a web forum, nor in a newsgroup post, nor in email. Even yourself didn't sign your name (unless your mum named you liquidat0r, in which case, I would suggest this is ground for a law suit).
I was referring to people signing their forum names, not their real names. And I do sign my name - with an image that says "liquidat0r".
liquidat0r wrote:I reckon that the reason these fields were first implemented (not into Pun, but in general) was because people had them in their sig.
Nope it's not. I've been around at those times, and people using signature for IM contacts were a minority (and I mean, a 1 to 100K minority).
Fair enough, I wasn't around then so I was just guessing really.

A sig is a public profile of sort... it's a small space where you put something personal, from your phone number to a random famous quote to an image (ahem) to whatever... it all depends on where the sig is used, when, by whom...
I disagree, contact/personal information should be in a users profile, as in theory that is static information that isn't needed when looking at a post. The fundamental use of a signature is what it says in the name - a signature (of some description). However, it is true that in general people use the space for quick fragments of information, links* and showing of their artwork.
Would be better to just get rid of them all. Put it in the sig if you feel the need to share it.
I think that that would be going backwards. I reckon that the reason these fields were first implemented (not into Pun, but in general) was because people had them in their sig. In any case, the idea behind a signature is simply to sign your name. You don't put all your contact information next to where you sign your name (say in a business deal) ... you'd put that sort of stuff on a business card (or in the case of a forum, your profile).
And yes, I'm pretty sure you are a minority
Currently, PunBB supports Jabber, ICQ, MSN Messenger, AOL IM and Yahoo! Messenger.
My first request is that MSN Messenger should be changed to 'Windows Live Messenger' as this is what it is now called.
Secondly, in all my time using PunBB (this may just be a coincidence ...) I have never ever seen the Jabber field occupied. Perhaps it could be replaced with something more popular? Skype, for instance.
Support for one's favourite IRC network and channel could also be implemented (though that is probably more suited to an extension).
An alternate solution would be to allow users to add any screen name for any client that they so wish. Though having this sort of free-form data like this (as was described to me the other day) is not suited to searching at all. (Unless the search is changed somewhat.)
