I have already successfully installed the forum on my website, but now I want to change the Domain Name. Will I need to change any settings with the forum and if so, what do I need to change?

Thanks,
RedHook

Thanks, I fixed it by editing the functions.php file. I could not figure out the main.tpl file.  In the common lang. thing, can you not have spaces in between words. I tried giving a link a name that contained two words and it didnt show up in the browser. When i changed the name to just one word for the link, it came up fine.

Also, while you are at it....I have another problem with categories - I added some new ones under admin and everything looks fine except they are not showing up on the message board. Only one is showing, and I set their orders...ie. 1,2,3 etc.

Sorry for the added request,

Thanks

I did, and you are right, I still cannot upload it. It is giving me the same message except now this is on the top of the page:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 680 is not allowed to access / owned by uid 0 in /home/virtual/site177/fst/var/www/html/profile.php on line 372

Actually, I just figured out how to correctly CHMOD in Dreamweaver, but I am still getting the same error message. The CHMOD I am using is

site chmod 777 /var/www/html/img/avatars

it says successful, but when i try to upload the avatar I am still getting the same message.

I am at a loss

Forgive me, Im an idiot - I am using DW - unfortunatly there is nothing like "change permissions" when i right click the avatar file. I just type the chmod into the ftp log thing, but i cant get it to work.  Could you recommend and FTP client that has the feature you are talkinb about. Preferably a free one.

Thanks

I said I wasnt going to post my site until i finished with the design, but what the hell, I will post it anyway. It is a modest site and I hope those that view it have a good sense of humor and are not offended by it. I basiclly wanted to create something my friends and I could post stupid stuff on, and to learn a little about php and things of that nature. The domain name will change soon.

I saw in an archived message a solution that worked for a person that had the same problem as i do. That was to chmod the avatar directory using 777, but i dont know what that means to chmod the directory. Do chmod just the avatar file?

yeah i checked that out and everything is cool with that, but I am still getting the message that the server will not upload the avatar.

I am having problems adding an avitar to my profile.  the image is 50x 60 pixels at 72 ppi jpg. when i up load i get a message saying the server was not able to upload the image.

Thanks,

Thanks, that explains a lot. The add on looks tempting but I dont know if i can deal with maintenance of the expanding file size. I will just stick with ref to other sites for now.:)

How do you post images from your local computer ie. say i had an jpg on my desktop and i wanted to upload it into the message? I clicked on the link below message for instructions but I am still confused. More or less, I am looking for an example.

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply,

I have DW set up except for the remote part. I am not sure what directory to upload these php files to. Do I upload them to the (var/www/html) directory like I would with an html file, and then run the install from there? I cannot find a directory (correct syntax for directory) in the MySQL database. My only option when I click on the MySQL tab is to Login and choose a database, but I do not see a directory.

Thanks,
RedHook

I have an account with MediaTemple (server). They are running the most current versions of PHP MySQL.

According to the installation instructions, I just upload all of the scripts to the database, only I am not sure where or how to do this through Dreamweaver MX.

How exactly to you upload these scripts to a server? I figured out how to run the installation script, but I have no idea where to put the additional files.

Thanks for your help in advance,

RedHook

Thanks,
Yeah, my provider is running PHP version 4.3.3 and MySQL. By "base URL" i assume you are talking about http://www.myurl.com? correct? Excellent!
Can anybody recommend a good PHP book for beginners like myself?
Thanks again,

I am totally new to PHP MySQL, and the only programming background I have is a basic foundation in HTML and CSS. I would like to place a message board on my personal web site, and, in the process, learn a little PHP. I looked at some CGI message boards and most of them contained information about reconfigurations to fit one's web site, but I did not see any reconfiguration reccommendations with the PunBB. Certainly it can't be as easy as install and go....can it? Are you able to help me, or do I need to accept the fact that I am in over my head?

thanks
