Check cat_id on the forums, then check the categories table to see if that's a valid ID

Those are categories, not forums. There are no forums in those categories it seems

Well, if you updated to 1.2.7 FILES but have a 1.2.4 for database, you should run 12_to_127_update.php or whatever it's called to update it (which is basically just incrementing the version).
That shouldn't do anything though. Like Rickard said, it's hard to tell without seeing the database

Well, is the category id for it an existing category (I'm just guessing here)? If not, create a category with that ID, or switch the forums to new categories via MySQL

These are the new forums for both Foohon Pie, the home of S.N.A.T. and Shrinking-Pants, the home of...well...something? 
Only mod I installed on the forums was the "Mark topics as read" mod. 
No new styles or anything like that (so far, I have the site admin working on a skin using SpinkBB) but lots of good fun. And S.N.A.T. is even better

Ooh, I've got what I think is a bug
When I hit "new" on a thread, I don't get the "new" post since I last read that thread, I get the new post since my last visit time (which due to a high visit timeout I set and me visiting rather often was 12 hours ago)

It looks exactly the same, except the links in yours are colored differently (and poorly, at least IMO)
