You have not understood ... when people are "online", pm is the easiest way to read quickly messages ... without checking emails.

IM systems are faster tongue

The wonderful feature of PunBB: you can let people email you without them knowing your email (the form email)

User groups: if you started with the principle that allowed always wins over disallowed in the case of conflict then wouldn't it be a case of just checking to see if a user is a member of a group with the relevant permission set to allowed and the fact that they are a member of any other group would be irrelevant.

That was what I was thinking when I suggested it (before the beta of 1.2 I think).
It makes no sense (at least IMO) to have more restrictive settings be the ones followed. Especially since two groups can be completely unrelated in their purpose (ie: I have one group that I give access to one forum and another group with another forum. If I put someone in both those groups, they should have access to both, not no access to either).

Mmm
I took a look at the site, but one thing struck me as odd: for some reason, everytime I load the page, for a split second, it's loaded without the stylesheet. If you need, I can show you a screenshot. It's not really a big deal, but it does make the page look funny.

It means something is wrong with your user table tongue

Problem is, PunBB should work perfectly with E_ALL wink

The problem is that if you have 5 categories say (other then default ones) and you have 10 different users with unique group situations, you have to create 10 groups just for them tongue
That's also compounded by the problem of not being able to give moderator powers to another group (although that's easily solved, 1 line of code that is in post.php, edit.php, delete.php, viewforum.php, and viewtopic.php (so 5 lines) being editied slightly gives another group all forum moderation power wink

No PM Mod installed = Email wink

lament wrote:

Fine, offer them free email addresses: serves the same purpose, but can be used far beyond a simple PM system big_smile
Or, if they choose to use the PM system, then they can CHECK it, like they would any mailbox: does your mailman leave you a note on your door saying you have mail? No, you have to go and check. If you're offline, does your mail program check your mail for you? No, you have to connect first.

Anyways, just my thoughts here: like I said, I dislike a PM system in a forum. I find it really an un-necessary feature, like attachments (although I can see how some people could use both mods). The best way (if this is put in) would be an admin setting for if they want it (similar to subscriptions) and a user setting if it's on (if they want it or not for them)

lament: But wouldn't that argue that if you don't visit it every day you should have the person email you, which you DO check every day, versus having the equivalent of x number of extra email accounts that tell your regular email account when to check them?

Edit: I personally don't see the point in a PM system, except as a means to keep your email private from people you dont necessarily trust. But if trust is your only issue, there are plenty of free accounts out there: take one and use it. When it gets spammed too much, toss it and start again. wink

In 1.2 I think, forum permissions

? Function to set "fixed" topic position. From when it was made. Even if someone writes in it.

Also in 1.2, you can choose if the topics are sorted by last post or creation

Screenshot (taken from the sticky thread here)

lament: One way to be sure is to check your server access logs for viewtopic.php entries with highlight=%2527 in them. Those will be the ones where it got exploited
And looking at the screenshot, all you need is the database stuff somewhere you can access it

That IP loads the main TextDrive site.

Perhaps this will work better:

http://www.textdrive.com/~punbb/forums/

Notice the announcement on top of the page: only the forum has been moved I think

One thing I would like to do is be able to give normal members a flag change so that they can go to forums that normal members cannot. I think I saw something like this on the forum when I did a search, but again I'm not sure if it would actually work. The reason being I want some people to be able to be able to help me out with beta testing and then use that forum without them having to be a moderator smile

Group system in 1.2 wink

Another thing I want to do is use part of the forums (the news forum once I get all the old posts cleaned up) to be able to feed a news page on my main site  (http://subsoap.com)  I'm not sure what the page would have to be for getting the news, and displaying it in the right visual format (there are little colored blocks that I would like each news post to be inside of) Easy options inside of the script like changing the amount of total news posts viewed, and then another page that lists all of the posts, their date, and name would be good. Each post would only need a date and the post title...

http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=3868 might work
Also, have you taken a look at the extern.php in PunBB already?

I would suggest just waiting until 1.2: this mod really doesn't work well tongue

Allow searching in user list.

Ah, I forgot. You can safely delete that whole row in the <table>.

Well, you can download the dev version right now to try out.

The User group system will indeed work perfectly for you wink

And to quote Rickard:

Now I'm going to take a few days off from PunBB and hand things over to Paul so he can fine-tune the markup and CSS. Once that is done, I have a few "left-overs" that need to be dealt with, but it should only be a matter of days. I think I'll release a beta before the official 1.2 though. The beta will be feature complete, but it might have some bugs.
