As Rickard said, please keep in mind that this is a beta! Before running the database update tool (assuming you're trying to test upgrading a real database, because you shouldn't be using this on a production site yet), make sure you have a working backup of the forum just in case something bad does happen.

Personally, I got in touch with a lot of people I hadn't met in years through Facebook, so in that respect, I like it. Granted, it's turning into a spam infested piece of shite now that there are all these "applications".

But they use PunBB to power the developers forum, so it's not ALL bad tongue

A redirect of 0 uses an HTTP header instead of the meta redirect page. If you don't like the redirect page, set the time to 0. There's nothing more or less "safe" about it, it's not recommended because you're not giving the users any confirmation that an action has been taken.

Could you link to your site so we can see what the problem is? I don't think you have the same issue.

I see your point, Smartys.

I just thought that "Mark as read ONLY manually" option will only require 1 tiny flag in the code, to not mark the post as "READ" when it is viewed, and add a simple link/button to manually mark/unmark the topic as being read/unread. That's all this feature is about, apart from adding this option to the profile.

Except the uses as you described it don't fit the typical forum. In fact, it doesn't even fit the use case you described: a topic is not marked as read globally, but only on a per-user basis. That means my having read a topic is not equivalent to assigning a support ticket to myself.

In any case, how would you store an infinite number of topics as read? That's a very important issue here, since without the last visit time you're storing far more data.

...I'm not understanding you tongue
If a style wants to, it can use its own template files by putting correctly named files within the folder. If it doesn't, it uses the default templates.

Don't know, is therhttp://punbb.org/forums/index.phpe any way to see that information?
Is it possible to use /forum/extern.php?action=new&show=10&fid=1 or sumthing instead of the full url?

Not easily, no

I agree with Jérémie. The use you describe for it is for a support ticket system, not a forum, which means that it's probably not a good feature for the core. However, as an extension it would work fine.

Not in 1.2, we're talking about 1.3

Jérémie: Exactly. But that gives an error if the subject is too long, unless I'm remembering wrong. If the subject doesn't trigger that but is still cut off in the database, that indicates a database issue.

Yann: If you're getting the topic name actually cut off, that implies you're not fully UTF-8. Otherwise, you would be able to store the data in the database. Full UTF-8 support goes beyond just changing the charset in the language files, it also means making sure the database connection is in UTF-8 and that the database tables are using the correct charset.

Every style has its own folder, yes

lie2815: Not exactly wink
Basically, it allows each style to customize its layout a little bit more. For example, certain styles may lend themselves to using a banner image in place of a title/description. In that case, the style can write a template for itself without the name/description, without affecting styles that need it.

StevenBullen: Anywhere? I don't know about that, but I believe there will be equivalent classes, yes.
bingiman: If you're talking about "the CSS class block has been renamed to foobar" or something like that, no. The markup has changed too much.

OK, message ID time
include/email.php
FIND

$headers = 'From: '.$from."\r\n".'Date: '.date('r')."\r\n".'MIME-Version: 1.0'."\r\n".'Content-transfer-encoding: 8bit'."\r\n".'Content-type: text/plain; charset='.$lang_common['lang_encoding']."\r\n".'X-Mailer: PunBB Mailer';

REPLACE WITH

$headers = 'From: '.$from."\r\n".'Date: '.date('r')."\r\n".'MIME-Version: 1.0'."\r\n".'Content-transfer-encoding: 8bit'."\r\n".'Content-type: text/plain; charset='.$lang_common['lang_encoding']."\r\n".'X-Mailer: PunBB Mailer'."\r\n".'Message-ID: <'.md5(uniqid(time())).'@localhost>';

The reason I suggest it is that it's something your SMTP server really should be adding

Interesting.
Have you set up an SPF record on your domain? If not, I would try that.
Otherwise, I'll provide some code a little later to try adding a Message-ID to the headers PunBB sends

SuperMAG wrote:

ok another question .... when u update ur forun to 1.3 and need to start adding mods

the mods you add that work in the previous version will it be working in the current version ...

No. As I said, the code in 1.3 is different from 1.2. Any modifications should be rewritten to take advantage of the new extension system. The rewritten extensions can of course work the same way as the mods they replace

SuperMAG wrote:

when u update your forum .. the posts and topics will be removed or will be still intact .,,

Of course they stay, we're not making you start from scratch

That won't work. You can't use the same tables for two forums on two different URLs with one base URL. That's what you're doing, unless I'm misunderstanding you.

No, I don't think either of those have to do with it
I would ask your host to set the reverse DNS for your IP to canadiensexpress.com

SuperMAG wrote:

will there is update script to update from previous version to current ....

Yes, we aim to make the upgrade as easy as possible

SuperMAG wrote:

when u update it will ur mods that u already installed will be still avaliable and working ...

No, that would be physically impossible. 1.3's code is different from 1.2, as I already said, so you need to replace your old PunBB files with new copies. That wipes out the code for any modifications. The database data would of course stay intact, so when an extension is written with the same functionality, you can install it and have it work.

That's not what it says and that's not what it means wink
Now, there is nothing wrong with images. Overuse of images is the problem. You don't need to replace every bit of text on the forum with a shiny image, in other words. tongue
And we're not trying to control what people can and can't do. If people want a flashy, graphical style, they can make one. smile
