I suppose you could do that... but you would need an extra column in the db to store the info.

I post news in particular forums only, so it suits my needs just fine. big_smile

Even if it has no limit, it's often easier to use some folders anyway. Use the id-number of the user that owns them as a subfolder and you don't have a "problem" anymore.

Now tell me why I don't think of these things... big_smile

Hey just a general question - is there a max limit of files that can be stored in a directory on a web server?

I've got an image uploading script which just chucks files into one directory... just wondering whether it'll bust at some point big_smile

Yeah me too... using firefox.

Not a big deal though...

Coppermine currently has user integration with punbb which is good.

It's still got a couple of things which I don't like / would like to see though, such as:
- automatic image resizing if uploaded image is too large
- photos appearing in multiple albums
- management of public/private albums - admin can move photos from private albums to public albums, but not vice versa??

But anyway, I've installed it and it's running. ;D

Hi,

Just looking for a db query that will show the number of new topics and posts within the last 24/48 hours...

Can anyone help?  These counts and group bys are confusing me big_smile

I'm looking to add it to the stats at the bottom of my forums index page.

TIA
Jules

yeah looks great doesn't it?

only problem with bravenet is that it's got a limit of 100 messages for the free version, and it shows ads (although not very annoying).  I found these as well which are free... but not as polished as bravenet

http://www.brainerror.net/scripts_php_guestmap.php - shows you how to create your own... but doesn't have a zoom feature.

http://www.guestmap.org/ - this one looks more promising, but current version is very basic.

Hey I found a free GuestMap by Bravenet ... looks pretty cool.  Each visitor can put a pin on a map to show where they're from...

Demo here:

I just made it a text link in my nav bar..,

Hey Steve,

Steve wrote:

I want the general public to be able to submit topics under specific catergories. They must register so that they can have a profile which i can modify so that it only contains their contact details.

You can set up permissions so that users need to register to access the forums, in the admin panel.

Steve wrote:

In their topic i dont want any detasils except their profile link.

You might have to modify viewtopic.php

Steve wrote:

You'll probably have to edit index.php to remove stats.  For nav stuff, it's in functions.php under generate_navlinks()

Steve wrote:

All i want is for people to be able to place topics and then others can view them if they are a particular ranking or member.

Hm... this might take more work... not sure.

You can't beat Apt, or the ability to upgrade your dist without restarting!

I run a headless server, 2 years running Debian Woody. I have never had the need to put a monitor on the box to recover from a bad kernel upgrade.

Just flawless, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, the first commands I issue in the morning.

Someone please speak English (just kidding) big_smile

Haha, so it is!  Although he didn't say "won't"... just not in the near future.

It's quite interesting, almost all of the stuff mentioned there are available as mods big_smile

- private messaging: yup
- file attachments in posts: done
- definable user groups: check and check
- polls: right here
- post preview: yes
- linking to off-site avatars: hm.. not sure about this one
- advanced text formatting controls: take your pick
- subforums: sadly, not yet

I still agree with Rickard's vision and strategy for punBB -- I guess sometimes you just need something tailored towards what you're trying to achieve with your site... and I guess that's where mods come in. big_smile

Ahh, ok, I've made my own hack smile

I like, I like... big_smile

Just wondering, when creating a new stylesheet, does it do all the necessary integration (e.g. icon, etc.)

ok, i've played with the layout a bit more...

Gone back to the single column layout, but also made my manufacturer specific forums look like vBulletin sub-forums.

What do you think?

(5 replies, posted in Feature requests)

I've got a lot of forums.. and it's taking way too much screen real estate.

Not knocking punBB, but I was looking at http://www.christianforums.com/ which uses vBulletin, and the subforums concept they've implement looks ok, and doesn't clutter up the screen... (well the all the other sidebar junk does, but i'm just talking about the forums bit)

Do you think punbb could one day include sub-forum functionality?  Pretty please? big_smile
