I'm getting one as soon as I can find one sad

Every few days I go to the local GameStop and play their demo, I'm so impressed with their remote and the graphics don't look that bad even tough they have it hooked up with regular cables. I imagine with composite cables and hooked to an LCD TV running at 480p, the graphics would look even better.

Complete with passenger wink

Cool site, here's more info: http://txpun.com/wiki/forum:punbb

harleyquine, interesting script, I can see some uses for it.

Is there a reason for using Magpie instead of SimplePie?

Nicely done, everything looks as one.

What else do you run on the site? So I may satisfy my integration fetish wink

In my experience, drupal is faster than many other CMS:s such as Joomla/Mambo

In all fairness, neither Joomla or Mambo are very fast. They have a lot of mambots you can install and the templating, with PHP tags strewn about, can take a while to render a page. One thing I've noticed with either Joomla or Mambo sites is that they don't validate well, like some have hundreds of errors, further slowing down the browser.

It really comes down to the individual creating his or her site, you can make a light CMS like Textpattern render slowly if you install 50 plugins.

The copyright is not required and I agree that it causes confusion.

This thread reminds me of Elmer Fudd smile

Be very very quiet, I'm hunting wabbits

Drupal's built in forums are just a blog with special formatting, it's fine for small communities but it doesn't really scale well and it tends to be slow at times. You can see it at Spread Firefox where they've had to make a lot of changes to accommodate the influx of users.

PunBB on the other hand is built for discussions, there is no excess baggage to carry around. The downside is that there are two user bases, one in the front end, one on the forum, we acknowledge this and are working towards making it easier to integrate PunBB into whatever front end system you have. Stay tuned...

Glad you chose PunBB for your discussions.

One suggestion I would make would be to get rid of the box look of PunBB, make it more like the front end, where text floats on the background color. You can see it on one of my forums, it's a white background but you'll get the idea.

Google Adsense has it's hiccups here and there. I run the Firefox Adsense notifier and I can tell when they are down cause my stats won't show anything.

I've always wondered what happens to all those clicks when they are having problems?

One of the main reasons I dislike Flash is the trouble I would have to go through as a Linux user. I have gotten Flash working in Firefox (which I hardly ever use nowadays) on my Gentoo AMD64 box, but I'm not even going to bother going through all the trouble again for Konqueror.

Yeah, my laptop has an AMD64 chip and Flash isn't supported on the 64bit platform.

To add to Linux woes, though Flash Player 9 beta is better, my processor would go haywire on Flash laden sites. I ended up installing an extension on Firefox so that Flash wouldn't play unless I clicked on it. I could see my temps rising on the motherboard when surfing certain sites, quite awful experience.

Search engines spider my forums just fine, no problems to report.

In PunBB 1.3 we'll have a nicer looking URL scheme to use.

As soon as we get Trac going, we can start posting Bug reports.

And yes, r626 is a work in progress.

I agree, mailing lists are a thing of the past, forums are the future.

Look at how Ubuntu's user base has exploded, due in part to the many forums implemented. Yet I have to hunt and search for Debian specific info on archaic mailing list systems, don't get it.

You have been forgiven my son wink

Wow 2,000GB of traffic, who the heck uses that much? All that space and only 3 domain names, no way to fill up that much.

Zaphoy, you'll need to learn:
The 1&1 Control Panel is the simple way to manage your domain names, e-mail addresses and websites with one login, one password and no hassle! And because it?s browser-based, you have access anytime and anywhere.

Flash, Flash and did I mention Flash?

I think it has it's place but whenever I hit a site that's totally Flash based, I hit the back button immediately.

Debian Etch RC1 is out: http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

Tried it out last night on my laptop, the AMD64 netinst iso. The install went fine, appears to run very fast on my machine, seems faster than Ubuntu Dapper or Edgy.

However, it still require skills and time. For example, Rickard being able to write SQL and PHP doesn't mean he can write and keep up to date a iptable conf, or has the time to patch half a dozen software each week.

Yes, I agree, time is a factor.

We've been waiting on Textdrive to fix Trac for a couple of weeks now, that's a lot of time lost by the developers. In the course of a year, I may spend a week in server maintenance mode, that's not a lot of time in my view.

There's good and bad on either side of the hosting equation, we just want to get 1.3 out the door.
