Cool! This should be very useful.

No NickServ or analogues thereof on efnet. (or several smaller networks I've used)

NickServ is a hack: it doesn't prevent someone from using someone else's nickname. The only way to be sure is whois them, and in practice a lot of people won't bother to identify, so that doesn't work either. Then there's everyone who changes their nickname while away. It really isn't the same.

I don't think it would be appropriate. IRC is not an IM service, just look at how nicknames are chosen (per-session). Maybe a short bio field where you could type up information like that? Or you could just put it in your sig.

Please note that my most recent message above was a funny joke and in no way meant to be offensive.

People like you should die. You personally may continue living for the time being, though.

You should give us a link to this supposedly superior board so we can supply long lists of reasons why PunBB is actually still the best.

This is about as good as you're going to get. The only better board than punBB is in German. And, they haven't done any work on it for around a year.

Care to give the details.  Maybe they have something that could be useful.

Maybe he's referring to Unclassified NewsBoard, although their site seems to be in English, and I haven't used it.

Why don't you ask the IPB people?

I can't imagine why anyone who likes PunBB would make a script to convert it to something else.

That's why I said "just a thought" and not "consider yourself roundly criticized for behaving inappropriately." smile

I simply think people respond better to being talked to than being, well, marketed to. But it does look like good old mark36ph has some sweet deals.

I think I get interested in stuff too easily. I'm interested in Esperanto now, but with so many things to be interested in, I'm afraid I'll implode!

Heh... the site looks nice but you might want to emphasize that the forums use PunBB and sound less like an advertisement. Just a thought.

Excellent! Thanks.

http://punbb.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6417 would be replaced by http://punbb.org/forums/topic/6417, something like that. See the Feedback wanted on URL rewriting thing topic.

Maybe a 301 redirect would work?

This has been suggested in an old topic before, though I'm not sure if anything ever came of the suggestion.

There's a bit of a problem though: What if a topic has 3 replies when you generate the list, but by the time you view it, it has 4 replies? It will think you have only seen three.

It might be a good idea though. LiveJournal allows a similar method for tracking read comments.

To be fair, I tried this on my phpBB as well (which only has 37 links) and it logged me out too. Is it a PHP/MySQL/Apache issue?
