I've made the change now, and the forum is notably faster.. I don't understand how u people do it. It could be a coincidence, cause my server has its good days and bad, but the forum definitely responds faster now.

I'm updating manually with the hdiff. Is it enough to change the files and run the Version Changer plugin? I'm wondering if I need to run the update-script. It seems to work fine without runnnig the script..

phpmyadmin can easily do backups as large as 500mb. I've often done it that way, saving it as a file on my own computer.

thanks so much, it's perfect now smile
Personally I think this should be included in the News Generator plug-in. Make it an option that users can comment/uncomment depending on whethere this is a feature they wanna use. It makes the generated news much more streamlined, and helps making the frontpage look much nicer.

you probably get the pattern now

Yes.. it's a tricky one, but I'll see what I can do wink

This output doesn't create linebreak between paragraphs tho.. it's all squashed together.

This thread here helped me.

I guess it's easy to make it show the first 2 or 3 paragraphs as well? I tried editing, hehe, but only managed to generate the 3rd paragraph only!
I'm such a novice.. sigh.

Thanks! Damn, I need to learn to code some basic php.. so I can do this myself.

Is there any way to truncate the news output from News Generator?
Some posts that are copied from online newspapers are so long that no one bothers scrolling to the next news item. It would be better if it was possible to truncate the output, so for instance only the first 4 lines shows.

Edit: I tried another search and found the answer, it's because of the converter.
Feel free to delete this if you want, mods.

hi,
on my forum I just realised that guests are allowed to posts even if I have changed the settings in both all the forums and in guest-settings to "no".
Any ideas??
This is a huge problem as I have some annoying people that spam the forum.

After doing some testing I see that the guests are treated just the same as members. When I change settings for members to read only, then neither members or guests can post/reply.
But when I set it so that members can post/reply, so can guests.

I need help

I've posted a few times about things I would like to see in punbb in the future, and I see that most of the other posts are about shortcomings, not the positive things.
So I want to point out a few of the brilliant aspects of this forum smile

It's lighting fast! It's like browsing on locally stored files, the response is incredible!
The CSS is easy to edit and understand.
The little dot next to threads if I've posted there.. clever clever smile
The report-system is very goood
I love how easy it is to add new links in the top-menu
Integrated quick reply is lovely
The administration is very easy to understand and well organised.
The plug-in solution is excellent. With time this will be an even more important feature as more plugins are developed.

Just a few of the things that makes PunBB the best forum I've used in my 4 years as a website administrator. So thanks to the community for creating this smile

Hi,
My forum contains a few groups where I allow long-time members to take part in development of the site in a hidden forum.
I want to keep the excistance of these groups hidden from regular members, but in the pull-down menu in "user list" these groups appear.
Is it possible to hide certain groups from the view of regular members?

I don't think educating 2000 users on shortcut-use is easier than simply inserting a link in the posts

I'm surprised you're so reluctant to listen to requests. This is a very common feature in forums, for a reason. It's been directly requested by my users, so it's obviously something that some people use.
I'm not saying you should make the mod, but dont laugh off the need for it.

Finger-home? So lets just remove the refresh-button in all browsers, since we can hit F5.

I dont understand the comment about breadcrumbs.. that doesnt help.
If you're reading post 15 in a list of 30 and want to use the menu, you have to scroll for ages to get back to the top. If there was a link saying "back to top" next to Report and Quote, it would make site navigation much easier.
Should be hard to accomplish, I'm sure.

I recommend creating ranks that go with your forums topic. My site is about a musician, so the ranks are song-titles.

But I agree 100% with the first posts who said it spawns flooding. I've had to ban users for flooding the forum trying to get to 1000 posts as fast as possible.
On the other hand it does also help getting the forum more lively when it's new. An established forum doesnt need ranks, but a new forum surely benefits from it.
Just my experience. My highest poster has 17.000 posts (!)

Seems this mod is dead, but it shouldn't be too difficult making a similar one for 1.2.x?
It would be cool to have a "back to top" link in each post, for those of us who have at times very long threads in the forums.

Not a pun-related question, but you guys seem knowledgable, so I'll ask anyway smile

When I converted my user database to punbb, the registration info was nullified for all users, leaving them all as "registered 1969".
Now I want to manually adjust this info for all the users, but I can't figure out the date-system in my database (mysql).

A new member registered yesterday, on March 13, 2005. The data in the database field "registered" looks like this: 1110741859
If I copy that to another user, the also appear as registered that date.

So I guess there is some kind of logic to why 1110741859 means March 13, 2005, right?
Can someone let me in on the secret? I'm not a codebreaker, and google hasn't been very helpful either hmm

I've bugged some of you with questions for a few weeks now, but it's finally all ready.
I've modified the themes quite a bit, if anyone is interested I can zip them and email them.

Some of you might notice I've removed the punbb-footer, I've done this in agreement with Rickard. I've written a special thank you to him for his effort in the section of the site called "about us".

I'd be interested to hear your feedback.

Thanks smile

When I converted from phpbb.. all my uses have "registered 1969-31-12" !

looks stupid:p

oh.. thats the version I have.
..

so is there no way to integrate 1.2.x?

I downloaded the file u posted earlier here, where I was able to enter the gallery as guest. Login didnt work tho.

Will try to edit the file myself, but any ideas are welcome.

Edit:
I used Bradley's code, and it worked like a charm. My gallery is now integrated with pun big_smile thank Brad for posting that code!

I got this error while bridging the latest coppermine with the latest Pun:

Fatal error :

There was an error while processing a database query.

While executing query "SELECT id AS user_id, username AS user_name, status FROM `jedi_nuke`.punbb1users WHERE username='2' AND password='f1a91e33f7c1bcff82e829aab1fe9033'" on 0

mySQL error: Unknown column 'status' in 'field list'

Maybe I need to clear the user-data for the gallery in the database?

I fixed this myself. It was just a matter of duplicating the img/smilies folder to the root, since my news-output is on a page in the root, and not /forum/.

I have another question regarding the news generator tho:
Is it possible to allow mod's to generate news? I have a few people helping me maintaining my site, and I want them to be able to generate news. I don't however want them to have full admin-access.

I just installed a bunch of new smileys in the forum, and they work perfectly there. But when I generate news, the smileys appear as text "smiley.gif".
I've been looking through the code for news-generator, but couldnt find any problem.
Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?
The new smileys are in the same folder as the default smileys were in.
