I think that if you put forum and post title side by side, it would be a problem for long titles. Remember too that font size is ultimately determined by the user so those who use larger fonts (like me) will not see what you think they will. I wish I had a solution for you but if it is mostly the  readability you are concerned with, then there was someone who posted an accessibility enhanced version here a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember where, but the link was http://www.accessibleforum.org.uk/ and you can get the css from them.

There is still help from developers here, and for that I am very grateful, but the administerial interest in the forum is very low - it fills up with spam and nobody deletes it for days. Recently when the forum went down there was no direct contact available, so I sent an e-mail to Informer Technologies but instead of a thank you the reply was "wrong place". smile They are not supportive.

I have the forum located in /www/website/forum/

It is not /includes it is /include. smile

The line in main.tpl should read
<div <!-- forum_include "test.html" --></div>
and test.html should be in  /forum/include/user/.

How easy is it to chop up the coding?. I need to remove a lot of functionality that just won't be needed, but can I do this without ending up killing the software completely?

There are others here who are far more qualified than I, but as an amateur I have been successful at this. I barely know how to write html, but removing lines from the php files wasn't hard to figure out. It seems the PunBB code is pretty robust. I guess it depends on how much you want to chop out. Give it a try!

Thanks for the bug report, we will fix it.

That would be wonderful! smile

I can't reproduce the problem. Could you post the site link here?

Sorry Slavok, I don't have this online yet. It does seem like a bug since the installation is fairly stock. Here are the steps which should reproduce the problem:

1. Install v1.0.3 Attachment extension
2. In Administration  » Settings  » Attachments
check "Display images" and set Max height/width to 600x600
3. In Administration  » Users  » Groups  » Edit existing group
under GUEST "Attachment rules" check "Allow users to download files".
4. Make a post and attach a pic.jpg file (less than 600x600) to it.
5. log out
6. While logged out, go to the above post. (you should see the picture)
7. Click login, enter user and password, etc.

Instead of getting logged in, the result will now be a pop up window that says "Save this file?"
At this point clicking "Cancel" leaves you stuck at the redirect window. If you click the link, then the "Save this file?" window pops up again.

PS: I was hoping to use this extension as an easy way for (some) users to post pictures in a story for all viewers. This arrangement clearly will not work because of this login problem.

Edit: I just did the above steps on a completely different PunBB installation and got the same result.

You can add a link on the right and you can move them all to the right. Do you really need the space?

Does anyone else have a setup which allows guests to download? If so have you seen it block login?

This is a really big problem for me as I will have to find some other way to deal with images. sad

So if you want to use the blog posting engine what is the purpose of PunBB? From what you say, it sounds like you don't need it.

So, how does one generate a random image? I would like to do that.

It's mostly spammers around here on weekends. smile

I see the navlink has the id "navextra" and I see it mentioned in /include/essentials.php but I can't find it either. You can try fiddeling with #brd-navlinks in the css and change float:left to right, but that's not really it either. The other thing which is close, but not as you mention, is to add the link on the right and keep it floating left with the rest of them.

If a guest is viewing a post which contains an attachment then, upon loggin, there is a popup saying "Save this file?". The message won't go away and can only be avoided by going back a couple of pages and clicking on something else.

I have made it so guests can download files, but the message comes up without clicking on the file, simply when one is at that post at the time of login.

How can I fix this?

Bellic wrote:

Why would you say I didn't read the link in your post? I read everything, and I've looked everywhere in my File Manager with no luck.

Sorry if that sounded a bit rude. smile What I am referring to is a server, not the client. I presume that if you can run it from your root directory, then you have some kind of server installed. In that case you must have php and presumably the relevant file somewhere. Since you don't have a /etc directory then I have no idea where to look. I guess that without /etc you could be running Windows and that would be out of my depth.

I got the same error message as you. I don't know what you mean by "check the allowable file sizes in your PunBB installation", but I did try to change settings in the admin panel as mentioned in my first post.

Sorry again, yes those are the setting in the admin panel. In my case that turned out to not be the problem and the message was caused by the server limit.

Do I need to contact my webhost to change the setting, or do I have some other options? There's tons of settings in the webhost CP but I'm not sure what to look for... I did find the htacces file, but that's probably not what I'm looking for, right?

I don't know what is in your webhost CP but if you can't find anything that sounds relevant, then I guess you need to do something else. I don't have a lot of experience with it but I think that you got it right when you mention the htaccess file. I'm aware of it but haven't needed to play with it. I looked around and found this link: http://roshanbh.com.np/2008/01/uploadin … n-php.html That looks pretty hopeful to me. I'm sure you can find much more information on the topic.

Line 346 of viewtopic.php reads:

if ($cur_post['is_online'] == $cur_post['poster_id'])

Bellic wrote:

I was not able to find php.ini anywhere... am I supposed to make it myself if it doesn't excist?

I could neither find any options in the CP of my webhost...

help

It looks like you didn't read the link in the last post. smile The file is in /etc/php5/apache2, at least on a regular Ubuntu server. Probably very similar on others. It is part of the server installation so you don't need to create it.

However, the reason the defaults were low on my installation, is because I was using the default installation. Since you are using a webhost, you will likely NOT have access to that file.

Did you get the same error message that I mentioned above? AFAIK that only comes from the server, but check the allowable file sizes in your PunBB installation. If those are suitable then perhaps you can convince your webhost to change their settings.

Does this mean at EST 12:32 pm. that I am the only one on?
Just curious..

You would think that people have more interest in the forum than that, but it does look like there are rarely people "on". It would be nice to see some more activity here. I check lots of sites, including this one, every hour or so but I only log in to post.

Thanks Slavok. That looks like a more permanent (and correct) way.

well all we have is name, title, 100px avatar, offline and IP for the admin. Id be cool if we could drop the avatar for mobile style and move the name, title, offline/online and IP above the post in someway, even if before the text. then have all text start on the very left.

That left column takes up a HUGE amount of space which is mostly devoid of content. I wouldn't mind if the left column was gone altogether. If name and title was placed at the end of the post it would be all that I would need.

I finally found it. In Style.css and the section which says:
.brd .postbody .author-ident .userstatus span {
I changed display:block to display:none.
I'm not sure that is correct, or the best way to do it, but it worked. smile

That seems a little clearer now.

My Forum MyCustomTEXT[Not title]
Is actually _all_ "title" and you can change that as per my previous post. However, do you want it to be dynamic? That is, changing all the time?

» Administration  » Settings  » Setup
Is the link. The default is index.php so you need to change that. I'll see if I can find that link in the code. If not, I'm sure someone else here can tell you if you ask for that specifically.

Well if all you want is to change the name, then you can do it in the admin console like coxxy said. Go to: Forumroot » Administration  » Settings  » Setup

The first box is called "Board title" and you can type anything you like into it. Then go to the bottom of the page and click "Save changes."

Your english is fine! smile but I just did what coxxy suggested and was able to call my forum:
Antidisestablishmentarianism PunBB 1.3 extensions Someverylittletownin Canada and there was room for much more. Isn't that long enough??? smile

I just want to appwove new registrations . . .

You don't need an extension for that. Look in: ForumRoot » Administration  » Settings  » Registration and you will see "Verify registrations - Require verification of all new registrations by e-mail."

People selling images always have this problem. I think the best solution is to deface the image by placing a transparent copyright symbol right in the middle. I have not seen any other effective method for avoiding unwanted distribution.
