Re: Trying to Find My REALLY Old Forum! (4 replies, posted in Discussions)
Thanks PanBB,
I'll try to look.
It's been so long since I've had to work with these types of files.
I'll have to try to remember where to find everything!
Like learning a new language all over again!
So this should be on my old computer?
Or is it somewhere on my old GoDaddy servers (which I probably couldn't access, since I gave up that URL)?
Sorry to sound so green, I wasn't so great at this eleven years ago

Topic: Trying to Find My REALLY Old Forum! (4 replies, posted in Discussions)
Back in 2016, I posted this question.
Every so often, our group (now relegated to Facebook >:O ) will mention things that are Archived SOMEWHERE in the Ethernet!!!
Hopefully, there exists some remnants, and I'd LOVE to find a link to them.
PLEASE help.
None of the older suggestions worked
So here is my original post, modified a bit, and I'll ask again:
Topic: Finding My OLD Forum
Many years ago, I switched from PunBB (sorry).
We had a lot of history on the old site, from February of 2007 thru about 2012(?)
I just tried to look back at the Forum, to find something, and I get nothing.
Literally "nothing", just a blank page -
NO "404 error, page missing, etc."
Any clues why?
[ Now, when I think about it, since I NO LONGER HOST the Forum at the following non-existing URL, of COURSE it won't be there! but I would think that these files still exist elsewhere!? Yes? No?]
Here is/was the address:
www.boroughvent.com/PunBB/forum/index.php
Certainly there was a repository of sorts at PunBB?
Please help, we had such great history - losing it all just haunts me.

Re: Finding My OLD Forum (4 replies, posted in PunBB 1.4 troubleshooting)
I'm trying to repost this in hopes of retrieving some of our old topics.
If ANYONE has a way to find our old posts on our old PunBB Forum, PLEASE help me.
This week, we will be celebrating TEN YEARS of Boroughvent / BoroVENT, abd it would be great to see some of the older posts.
It is our HISTORY, and we've lost it.
I know it exists out there somewhere.
Administrators?
Moderators?
Magicians?
Thanks, Venter

Re: Finding My OLD Forum (4 replies, posted in PunBB 1.4 troubleshooting)
Is it possible to just view the old forum if I don't currently have a hosted website for the "boroughvent" URL?
In other words - Did the old forum disappear with all the files when the site was no longer being hosted, or does PunBB keep a link to the forum?

236 people have at least looked at this question as of this morning.
Maybe some of them wonder the same thing.
Maybe somebody knows the answer?

Topic: Can an Image Placed on a Forum Contain a Virus? (4 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 discussion)
I'm sure this is stupid question #2,000,000.
A member was concerned after they opened one of our Forums and there was an image on there from a "spammer" member.
They mentioned that they hope it didn't contain a virus.
I never considered that a possibility before.
Can an image on the page contain a virus?
Is there a link or something that could occur if they click on an image?
We've had a rash of Russian spammers invade our site, to the point that I suspended all registrations for a while.
Is there any way to prevent "spam" members?
I tried to ban all *.ru addresses, but they still get through.
I used the "random password when registering" option, in addition to the "must read the rules and regulations" option, and they STILL get through.
I'm still using PunBB 1.2.14
WHAT can I DO?

Re: Broadcast Email - Where can I find "returned mail"? (2 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Smartys,
Nothing came back at all, which is impossible, but then again...
After sending the broadcast, I can no longer send from that account.
I can receive, but it tells me there is a "temporary local problem, try again later" when I try to send.
It's been saying that for over 24 hours now, which makes me believe that I broke the internet.
Now what?

Topic: Broadcast Email - Where can I find "returned mail"? (2 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I sent out a Broadcast email today to 145 members.
Some people have let me know they received it, although I received an error message shortly after it was sent out.
I was hoping to find some "dead" email addresses so I can weed out a few "suspect" members.
How can I find the returned emails?
Any guesses?
Thanks.

Just thinking that if my site is hacked, it would be nice to have a periodic backup.
Is there a way to download an entire forum?
Thanks,
Gene

If you move a topic, can it become "sticky" again?
I'm having trouble figuring out how to do that.

Topic: Adding Menu Bar Items? (2 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I have 8 items on my Menu Item bar (as above, User list, Rules, etc)
I want to add another item to allow people to visit another Forum on my BB.
I already added an item at the first position (0) and it works fine.
I gave the new item the position:
9 = <a
href="http://www.boroughvent.com/PunBB/forum/viewforum.php?id=4">PoliticalForum</a>
I assumed that it would be listed on the bar, but it's not.
Any suggestions? Is the syntax wrong?

YOU GUYS ARE GENIUSES (or is that GENII?)
It kept coming back to the parser.php files because you ALL said "PARSER.PHP idiot!".
I went to the parser.php file, lines 277 and compared it to the fresh parser file (thanks soonotes).
It HAD gotten corrupted... somehow.
I replaced the parser.php file, uploaded it, and presto!
Thank you all so much. I really appreciate the thoughts and suggestions.
I hope I don't have to come back here for any more help - but I'm sure you know that I'll return, because I'm basically clueless

ElBekko, I sent it again.
Soonotes,
If I download and install a new copy, will I lose anything in my current Forum, will it affect current users, etc?
Will the config.php change?
I had a hell of a time getting it to accept the first one!

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
Paul,
Where would I look to see if that is the culprit?
As far as I can tell, which is very limited, parser.php looks clean. It doesn't seem to be redirecting the url.

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I've done all I can do to figure this out. I've checked every file on any site/server/host/local/whatever!!! that I can think to look in.
ElBekko, I hope you received the files I sent to you. Was the parser any help?
Any other suggestions? Please, anybody!
I would like to know more about deleting all of the php files from my cache. Is it wise?
Won't they just reload next time I synchronize with DreamWeaver?

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
This is the base url listed in cache-config.php:
'o_base_url' => 'http://boroughvent.com/PunBB/forum',
It's safe to remove all of the .php files in the forum/cache files!!???
I'm working on getting the parser file to you.

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
I tried the www.gettysburg... combination a couple of times, with and without "www".
I thought that may have been an issue.
BUT... I can't expect users to do that.

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
That's interesting.
I can't find any other reference to the "upload" file on my remote site or on my local site.
I can't see it when I visit the ftp info and look at those files.
Where & why would they show up?
Is this even something that may be the problem or just something weird?

Re: Making a Clickable Link to Another Site? (29 replies, posted in PunBB 1.2 troubleshooting)
In the edit box, when I type in www.gettysburg-pa.gov , it looks just like that.
The highlighted link looks fine.
When you click on the "correct-looking" url, then it goes to the 404 message because SOMEWHERE along the line the base url of boroughvent.com adds itself to the front of the "gettysburg..." url link
