Alternative Download:

Just updated the script with the latest bannedips.csv ...

Might be good to integrate this into the stopforumspam extension....

how is the user going to know what he's thanking for if he can't read it?! if you're so needy for thanks install the thanks extension - if they don't use - just live with it?!

Can't you use one or a combo of these extensions?

I'm not sure. Where do I get the latest versions of the extensions?

If you have pun repository installed: directly in the admin section - extensions....
There you'll see if there's a version newer for download... (only with official extensions currently)
You should have version 1.4.2

under
» Administration » Start » Forums » Edit forum
you can untick the post approval...

was always there, just not first place one looks...

regarding those accounts mentioned above
if you go to
» Administration » Users » Searches
and search for unverified users   (near bottom) - make sure you have none.... as they'll still be activating those accounts created before you installed stop bots...

You could always
turn pun_approval on (just for registrations)
and install stopforumspam.com extension
and report IP, email and username to stopforumspam.com

Pakistan often will be human spammer... they'll answer the question without too much trouble...
maybe even feed the answer to someone running bots...

You can also hope someone creates this addtion for pun approval - so that any UK users would get though without manual approval:

Oh yeah forgot that;
use this one - been working here for some time now...

http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … nstopbots/

Make sure you don't have the mixed extension installed with url checker and sfs in one...

This morning I had 2 of 4 registrations pending in pun_approval that were already in stopforumspam database - BUT only since a couple of hours.... however both IPs had been reported 8 (!) times in the last 6 hours... starting 5.x hours before I checked.... (I think they're taking advantage of night time reduced moderator activity)

So the question is: wouldn't it make sense to query the sfs-db every 3 hours for registrations completed in last 3 hours and delete any user whose IP was found?

That shouldn't put unnecessary load on the sfs-db I assume...

Edit:
I was told that instead of querying the sfs db one could download the list mentioned below.. if we had some script that gets it every 4-5 hours (wget and unzip) - that would permit a query of recent registrations (daily, weekly) without sending lots of queries and also faster as serverside

Updated once per hour
listed_ip_1.zip - Last 24 hours, limited to 6 downloads per IP per day, last update 05-Oct 06:00 EDT

Now the question is; can this be implemented in  "deluxe" extension - or does such a script need to be loaded seperately?

Using Temporary Tables to Speed Up MySQL

Would something like that not help?
Or is it fundamental problem of MySQL ? And what exactely are you seeing?

I was just thinking that there must be reason other projects use .org and TLD instead of subdomain...

I see advantages in releasing 1.3.5 with a few of the above mentioned improvements/fixes, then releasing again in Nov/Dec 1.3.6.... otherwise it could get overloaded/ too big a task.... (unless someone were to propose code changes and save core devs time... wink )

I always find it easier to stay motivated like that anyway... but of course it's up to Slavok and alexp....

you need to go to the host - doesn't get faster than punbb out of the box.
