I think Newuser12 was looking for something more. If I understand correctly, he wants to take localization info and place it in the title. This information is not static. I don't know how to do that, but in case it will help in some way, here are a couple of vaguely related threads:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … om-header/
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … -template/
Edit: I just found this plugin mentioned here:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/135604/#p135604
One thing I noticed about that though, is that is can give strange information since it gets it from the IP. In my case it came up with the name of a very small villiage 300km away. It got the country right though. Perhaps it's better to get information from the users themselves. Anyway, you still have to find a way to inject it into the title.
I would like to not have the user online or offline show. How can I remove this item?
Do as you like, but I think blocking right click is useless. If they can see the image it is because they have downloaded it already. Also, remember that lots of people turn java off when browsing.
That's very nice. I like to see people trying to make communication clear and comfortable for everyone. There seem to be so many forces working in the opposite direction these days.
I am curious about how you arrived at the colour choices. Are they based on different types of colour blindness?
The alternate colours are very comfortable as well which I actually find a bit surprising because blues mostly rub me the wrong way. The particular blues which you chose however, are very comfortable. Colour sensitivity is of course a psychological problem, but I am sure that there are many people in the same situation.
I use F-Prot 2.28 from 1998 to scan old DOS floppies if they are suspect. Apart from that specialized situation, I don't use any.
There are several ways it can be done and it was a decision to do it this way. You can use the search feature on this forum to find information like that. I found:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … -counting/
I used my real name when I signed up for this forum. It worked just fine and the software did not complain about it.
ahmad1989 wrote:thanks for your answers , but i have a question for punbb group ... punbb group made this scrept by ther self , but is it possible they dont know how to change this picture?
The developers aren't always here. This forum is not very well frequented so it is possible that no one who knows the answer has seen your request.
I personally like the little squares although they serve no purpose whatsoever - they are actually kind of strange. I was watching this thread in the hopes of seeing the answer because I am still very ignorant and just want to learn stuff. FlashT gave a good hint and I tried that, but it's not that easy.
Give it it's own directory like this: forumroot/style/nameofstyle
trenchnz wrote:. . . the only thing I have seen in the way of functionality that I miss, is that the search system only goes to topic headers, and will not drill right down inot individual words in posts.
Did you mean that it does not show the specific line in a post? That would certainly be handy for very long posts. If you check "Display results 'As posts'" then it shows which post contains the words. However, the default is "Display results 'As topics'" which only goes to topic headers - that was the mistake that I made.
My apologies KANekT!
I did not understand how it was supposed to work. After much double checking and re-downloading, re-installing, etc, I finally looked at your screen shot in the expanded form and then I saw that the "first post" only works when the box is checked. Since I am still working with a test site, I had not added more posts and thus had not seen the check box. (blush) You can call me an idiot.
I can now report that your extension works very well. Thanks!
Sorry I missed your post the other day.
I don't know what kind of mistake is possible. I uninstalled and reinstalled it to make sure. Things look fine in "admin/manage extensions" so I don't know what else I can do. I am using PHP: 5.2.4-2 if that makes any difference.
I can't speak for FlashT but in my case it is indeed a case of not understanding. I've tested the built in search some more and what I missed was that to get what I wanted I had to click "Display results 'As posts'". When I do that it actually works very well.
I just did that to find this thread and it brought me right here. So ... no problem as far as I'm concerned.
Set user permissions for different groups. Look here:
FORUM » Administration » Users » Groups » Edit existing group
Thanks for the link Slavok.
I guess what other sites do would be an indication of how safe this configuration is, so I just looked at a current WordPress installation. I can see that they do the same there. The database name and password etc are completely clear to anyone who has access to the file. One can only hope that the server limits access, and indeed that should be the case.
That's amazing! I can't believe that a spammer would go to all the trouble of coming back to a site. Some of those guys must not be looking for a lot of return on their time. Anyway, my second suggestion may be a bit more useful then, but if someone is really persistent then I guess nothing will work other than just keep deleting their posts. Hopefully someone here has a better suggestion and can be more helpful than me.
Hmm, I wish I knew what. They all look like the same format. Here is the current "sticky, closed" with what should be a very noticeable colour. Those hex attributes appear valid to me.
.brd .main-content .sticky .closed .icon {
border-color: #00B220 #bc9c7b #B47246 #ff0000
}
I have only changed the colour attributes on any of them and the rest is the same. I have left the other css file alone. I would very much appreciate any suggestions.
hussam wrote:OK, is there anyway to make punbb require that registrations are verified by an administrator?
I'm really no expert, and I've not tried this, but it says there is e-mail verification. Look at: FORUM » Administration » Settings » Registration
The second box down says "Require verification of all new registrations by e-mail." I guess that would do the trick.
You could also limit the permissions of new users in FORUM » Administration » Users » Groups and then upgrade all the new ones by hand. The pun_colored_usergroups extension could show the new ones as red (for example) so they stand out. There's probably other things you can do when you look around.
It looks like it lists the topics found. I don't find that very useful as it can be a very long way from what you're looking for. Actually, I find that completely useless. Perhaps I don't understand either.
This is actually a problem with local search on most forums. Unless it is a private forum, there's not really any need to have a local search function anyway since, if it is a public forum, Google does a much better job at finding stuff. I would personally prefer to see search as an extension.
hussam wrote:captcha helps blocks spam bots. However, there is still the problem of human spammers who register and post ads/spam.
Yes, spam bots are not such a big problem but I too see the human spammers all the time. I participate on a number of very active forums and the way we deal with them is to delete the posts right away. IOW, there needs to be an active administrator on the forum. It seems to be the consensus that there isn't a better solution. Too bad.
I hate spam, but also like to look at the positive side of things. Of course one can see spam anywhere, but when I encounter a new forum and there is very much of it, or it stays up for a couple of days, then to me it indicates a lack of interest on the part of the owners. So, to me, spam can also act as a useful indicator.
I can't get access either. In fact I don't have any .htm files anywhere so it sounds like FlashT is running some special installation.
Security is always an interesting question. The config.php file puzzles me too. Of course one has to be logged in to see it. Have you tried changing permissions? Mine are -rw-r--r-- Hopefully someone who knows will speak to this soon.
The install.php file is not needed. I just deleted mine.
I just tried it and now it doesn't do anything.
joby123 wrote:where can i find the css file?
There are two, one is for colours. You find them in
forumroot/style/name/name.css name_cs.css
If your installation is default it will be
forumroot/style/Oxygen/Oxygen.css etc.
The _cs.css file is nicely annotated so it is not too difficult for a beginner to make changes. Make a backup first so you can go to town.
That's a really nice extension, but it doesn't work for me either. It shows the last post of the previous page as number one.
Edit:
I was wrong, it actually renumbers the post at the top of the current page as number one. I sure hope you get this to work as I would really like to have it.
