Have you tried a diffrent style?

I installed Punrewrite, However I highly dout that its causing the problem. Two reasons. Firstly becuase All it is a simple function, Just like any other Function that PunBB uses. Secondly that it worked fine once rewrite was installed, and before the JS was added.

have you checked over at PunRes?

I am new here, just installed yesterday and trying to get things up and running.
For privacy reasons, I would like to keep the forum closed unless a user registers and logs in.

Is there a way to make some or all of the topics invisible to guests?
I have been playing with the settings and can't find it.

Thanks!
Meg

You cannot make individual topics hidden, you would have to put the topics you dont want guests to see, in another forum and only allow people you want to see the topic access.

I have the same question, but I just want to forbid them to post new posts or new topics (I allow them to watch the forum).

Thank you very much

Yes you can do this. Look in the forum permissions and you can allow/disable guest posting.

To upgrade your Punbb 1.2 forum to Punbb 1.3, you should follow these steps:

  • Download the latest Punbb version from the downloads page.

  • Upload all Punbb 1.3 files from the upload folder within the downloaded zip file.

  • Run admin/db_update.php (e.g. open http://example.com/myforums/admin/db_update.php in your browser).

Make sure you have a back up of both your database and files.

All modifications will be lost and all changes to your style will be lost. Your style will need recreating from scratch.

Some of the old 1.2 modifications are now extensions for 1.3 but not all of them have been updated. Make sure all of the modifications you currently use on 1.2 are already available for 1.3 before upgrading, if they are a necessity for your board anyway (or unless you dont mind upgrading some yourself).

You could do this in 1.3, however you will have to modify the code and remove/change IF the forum user is mod, then delete what you would rather not them have to use. It wouldn't be too hard, and wouldn't take much time when you know what your looking for.

For now, the differences are little.

However, Once Fluxbb 1.3 is released, development from the Fluxbb team will no longer be going ahead on 1.3, and will focus on 1.4/2.0. This will be when the main difference is, Punbb will be supporting 1.3 and will actively *cough* be developed on.

I totally forgot about Informer... sorry.

Yeah, I think its important to see PunBB is maintained differently from how it used to. To the developers, this is only just another project they run, and dont have the same aims and wishes as the community needs.

However please be aware that I do understand where you are coming from, and do belive that the developers should be here. I am working along side the developing team to come to a little compromise because PunBB is only another project to the developers, though it would be nice to see them have more of an active input into the community, and post outside work hours, we cannot demand this.

Though I am considering moving onto the dev team, so that if the situation arises again, when the developers are out of work for the website, then I can at least still do update to the forum. However, at the moment, I am a little too busy with college, and don't want to take the responsibility just yet.

We have released several projects of Informer.com before New Year. I was completely off to there for that period. Now we have a state holidays in Russia until 11-th of January, so that activity will be low until then.

I keep an eye on PunBB and FluxBB forums, but have no time to work on PunBB right now - it depends on my boss for me.

Thats all I have guys. Sorry

Make sure you have the correct files in the lang/mail folder, this is the basic template for them.

I think its clear what the differances are if you look at the news that FluxBB have announced.

Its up to you.

Theb ase url is the URL set in the forum admin panel. Go into admin > options and it should be base url, that should be the URL that you wish to have the forum working under.

the best thing your find is http://fluxbb.org/forums/topic/2545/oxygenb/

It will work fine in 1.2.21 , Also, You might be intrested to know that 1.3 has this feature built in.

Firstly you need to upgrade to 1.2.21.

Also, what is your Base URL set to?

I know it wont fix it, but try get your CSS to be valid: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/vali … lan.net%2F

I would look at the code to center the forum on a fresh install , and look at yours and see what the difference is.

I belive its is <!--forum_include"FILE"--!>

Its something like that.

Try and keep in mind that the more freely available extensions are the faster the community will increase. If there are loads of extensions around no one knows about it's a shame.

I am reccommending this method not for extensions. I am recommending modifications and stuff to be done publicly, so that they are freely available. But this is for people who have rather unique needs. This would be stuff that is only needed on a one off client. A modification that could benefit others should be done freely.

And yeah I do have plans to keep on top of this. I am developing the system at the moment to handle this, however it will be done via External emails as the PM system at the moment doesn't have the required features, such as attachments and forwarding to emails. So this will mean I wont have compleate controll over it, however I will try to contact requesters and see how its getting on.

Also please can someone clarify the license terms from a buyers perspective. If I'm being charged $500 for a major extension by another dev I'll be pretty ducked off if the developer then releases it for free the very next day

It's an interesting issue. If he plans on doing that he should tell you so from outset (honor codex?). But, you might need it for a client of yours  who in turn is paying you - so in some cases you might not mind if he publishes it after. Lots of ways of looking at it.

You'd never legally be able to "get him" for it though. You could maybe have him banned from this forum in such a case where he agreed not to and then still did. But that leaves loads of doors open: posting in another name, posting from different IP etc etc. Posting in another forum altogether. Uncontrollable isn't it?

Because of the GPL licence that Punbb is under, there is no legal way to stop people releasing code, whether its paid for, or not. however its down to trust. I will not be letting anyone on the paid work group if I feel that they will mess around, or manipulate the guidelines.

I would say that by default the code that is developed may not be given to anyone else, unless the requester says otherwise!

1.3 Will have continued support. Security patches and updates will be released when needed.

As for the future, 1.3 will continue to be the main version for a good few years, Till 2.0 is developed.
