Well.. Looking at the XML here It looks like it would be easy to make a database driven XML sheet.

Something like this would be useful for Punbb, as we no longer use Punres to store extensions and modifications.

Are you using the right mods for the right version?

You have posted in the 1.3 section but the code you have posted looks like 1.2 code.

Paid Punbb modification/extension work

We will soon be supporting official extensions and modifications to Punbb. The community will most likely help with small mods, however some people require larger modifications to Punbb.  This is where members, who are part of the extension group can do the work in exchange for money.

Pricing
Everyone will have a different opinion on how much a modification should cost, and this can vary on the members coding level, time availability, and the situation.  So it is best to contact a majority of the official paid workers to get different quotes. *Should members make a post in a new forum, and then the workers can reply with their quote?*

Agreement
Both members must agree the common set of rules and statements stating what will be done. This can include:

  • Price

  • Deadline

  • Support After

  • Payment method/Currency

  • User requirements

  • Contact

Support
The support of the modification only supports what is stated in an agreement. Its recommend that the agreement stats support should cover everything up to the user requirements. Anything beyond that, we recommend developers to support, however aren’t required to support the modification after.

Payment
It is recommended that 50% of the agreed price should be after the agreement has be set but before work has started. Then once the project has been finished the rest of the money will be exchanged for the files and source code.

NOTE: Please be aware of the currencies that members might pay in.

Distribution
Because of the licence that Punbb is under, Any work carried out  on it can be redistributed freely. So once payment has been made, the requesting person can freely distribute the files that have been paid for. The developer may ask for the files not to be redistributed, though they don’t have a leg to stand on legally, the developer may not wish to offer future support and developments to you.

Code Quality
Its is important for the quality of code to be at high standards. Developers should use commenting where possible to state what is happing and should have neat source files. Security is important and mods should use Punbb methods of security.  Code is recommended to be W3C valid.

Live servers
It is recommended that modification developers have a live server that can be viewed by the requester (at certain times, or freely) online. This will allow the requester to see what they are paying for.

Requester code
In some cases the requester might wish to have their personal source code modified. In cases like this, the requester should give a copy of the DB (with limited data (posts/forums/bans) and an admin user account with the password stated in the agreement) and files (with config.php cleaned for sensitive information)

If the requester wishes to give the developer access to their own live server then this should be limited access.

One possible idea is me developing an extension for Punbb.infomer.com to support the paid extensions, So all this information is on a form that the user can submit and will alert all extension developers, and they can quote if they are able to do the requested project. And once both members have agreed that payment has been sent/received then the files can be transfused.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome. If you would like to be part of the group then please Email me.

Hi, I will always ask for my needs in this topic (I dont want to flood).

For now, I have these questions
- quick quote, is it fixed, and is this the solve - … pun_quote/ ?
- footer (can I add the logged users in one day, can I delete the using extensions - or it's only showed admins?)
- links - open in new tab
- link to the forums (when click to active topics, right to the topics.. forums - link to these categories)

That's all for now, hope someone will help soon!

Quick quote will be offical fixed within the next week.
You will need to use an extension to do that ( not yet made)
Extension.

Are you changing the forum time or your profile time? If you change the forum time, it will only change for guests and new members. Any members created before the change will have the previous settings. Same with language and styles.

Hi,

Can I post a question here: How to remove the line "Generated in ..." in the footer?

To remove that, you need to open up include/essentials.php and comment so it looks like this:

// Enable DEBUG mode by removing // from the following line
// define('FORUM_DEBUG', 1);

Yeah Windows has a problem extracing the files as you have the folder names the same as the files so it thinks they are the same. hmm

Could should be valid, it doesnt take long to do (depending on the amount of code in question) however for the next release the code should be valid.

However just because the developers views are different to yours, doesn't mean you can be getting personal with each other. Next time, please state improvements such as Making it W3C valid.

We will have guidelines and rules set out for community based extension developers and developers will check code and contact the extension developer about this. If you wish to be part of the extension developing team, start learning! smile

Regarding the same name/version number, members can reupload modifications that they make to the extension you create with the same name/number. Though it would be an idea to change it so people dont get confused.

For 1.3 you can release an extension, Which is a 1 click mod to your site. There is a guide somewhere about writing extensions, but if not, just post the code here, and I can make it into an extension.

Yes, Matt Hutchings. He's been great.

Cheers. Just sent you the work you requested.

At the moment, the work has been free wink Mainly because we (Punbb) want to sort out a proper system for paid work. Such as how much to charge, support, problems, agreements and quality checking.

We will be looking to have some Punbb paid developers (along side community ones (our plans ill be released soon) ) and didn't want to charge until we have the guidelines in place.

However the option of donating is open. big_smile

He is talking about it being valid: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1 … bb.info%2F

Make sure that the mail templates in your forum folder are correct and are the right size.

I would reccomend using Firefox for webdevelopment and using extensions such as Aardvark and web Developer to see and debug situations like this.

I know 1.2 used MD5, However i dont know what 1.3 uses, I guess Ill have a look!

Edit: So it does, salted sha1. So yeah the best method would be as sudugested for 1.3.

When will the css cleanup and rewrite be completed.

The styles seem to be something that should stay constant between updates. Having to go back to Oxygen is a real bummer for me and my site. It does not look good. I appreciate all the hard work you have put into this BBS, it is the best most reliable BBS out there as far as I can tell, and I have tried a bunch of them.

Could you tell me exactly how to change the color scheme of the style please, I can get by if I am able to change the color scheme. Thanks so much for your help!

Mikel

The styles work between updates. However I am not sure what the official word is on what is happening with the Markup/Css as you might be able to tell, the CSS files wernt built like that a permanent structure.. They need to be made more organised and friendly.

There are limmited styles avaliable for 1.3.X because the css and markup has a planned clean up and re-write, which will create the current styles un-useable.

Is this based on the time line of flux or you guys (pun) doing your own clean up rewrite of the markup.

Again, Im not sure what it happening with the code now that other factors have changed. I have made a post and waiting to see.

If you wanted a hungarian language pack then you will have to use 1.2 at the moment. To install 1.2 you need to remove all the files and DB and start over agen.

What exactly would this allow Punbb to do? I dont know much about ajax and JS its a gray area for me..

I have always thought that incorporating Punbb with something like http://extjs.com/ which is an amazing yet nice kit for Ajax which I though would be cool (but probably completely useless in the real world) as a forum.

Two methods:

  • Remove all information of Ip address, mainly from register.php and post.php, remove the SQL inserts and the ipaddress field in the DB, and remove where it displays the IP code.

  • (Reccomended)Overwrite the IP address so it dosnt insert an Ip insted it isnerts 00.00.00.00 Into the DB by changing the varaible called when inserting into the DB.

Cereal; while were waiting for punbb to get back to you...

I have a question; Im not sure if this is what youre framework would allow ...
If I hover above a users name I would like information like no. of posts, registered and his/her avatar to appear in a box (on my testsite www.punbb-b.keydog.info you can see why Id need it) - which was next to post on left hand side in normal punbb.

I think this is a function your framework would allow?

Or am I talking and needing something completely different?

You want something from this site here.

No-one else is working on a modification to Punbb like this one, and hasnt really been done before. So this would be a good way to move Punbb.

As far as i know there is no Hungarian 1.3 language pack so you must have installed a 1.2 language pack...

To set the defualt language back english you need to edit the database and change o_deafult_lang ( something like that) to English, then delete the cache be deleting all the cache_* files in the cache folder and it should work.

Garciat wrote:

I say this because it'd be cool to have another extension developer to talk to and share ideas, not because I want to annoy you or be mean

I will be an extension developer at somepoint wink just need the time.

With the recent discussions over at fluxbb about the future of fluxbb, I'm Just wondering what the aims are for Punbb 1.3 version?

Will Punbb 1.2 be following the changes of Fluxbb, that will be called 1.4, or will it stay as it is and development continues on Punbb 1.3 as planned?

Thanks.
