You should have something like this on index.php:

if (!$cookie['is_guest'] && $cur_forum['last_post'] > $cur_user['last_visit'])
{
    if ($cur_user['show_img'] == '1')
        $icon = '<img src="img/'.$cur_user['style'].'_new.png" width="16" height="16" alt="">';
    else
        $icon = '<span class="puntext"><b>?</b></span>';
}
else
    $icon = ' ';

if (!$cookie['is_guest'] && $cur_forum['last_post'] > $cur_user['last_visit'])
{
    if ($cur_user['show_img'] == '1')
        $icon = '<img src="img/'.$cur_user['style'].'_new_on.png" alt="">';
    else
        $icon = '<span class="puntext"><b>?</b></span>';
}
else
{
    if ($cur_user['show_img'] == '1' || $cookie['is_guest'])
        $icon = '<img src="img/'.$cur_user['style'].'_new_off.png" alt="">';
    else
        $icon = ' ';
}

1) BACK UP :). It's a single file, but back it up.
2) I've removed the width/height setting.
3) If you want different images for different styles (CSS) you'll have to create them all. I use a single style (custom) so I removed the $cur_user['style'] code.

Change the code, then rename img/new.png to img/new_on.png and create a img/new_off.png that suits your tastes.

Edit: The "dot" shown above has a code (& + #8226 + semicolon), look at the source because the forum it's converting it.

I'd give you the code but my server is down right now :verymad:.

Yeah, for instance:

(Of course you have to log in first.)

Edit. It's subtle, I like it :).

Do you plan on writing an hdiff file for future 1.2 or will there be too many changes? Just wondering.

Here. I tweaked it a bit, something easy, extremely easy to do, GREAT job Rickard. There is nothing on the main site and just a few close friends registered, I'm too busy with my thesis to release anything, I just wanted to show off a little bit :).

What's "woot"? An onomatopeia?

Topics can be moved by mods and admins. Not posts, but topics. Honestly, I don't see what the point would be in moving a post from a topic to another topic :P.

I created a user named:

1 " 2 ' 3

I can post, but when I try to ban the account the nickname in the form is truncated just before the double quote. If I invert the quotes (first the simple one and then the double one) I see the single quote is fine. Mmm...

Of course I can add the rest (" 2 ' 3) manually. Just to send feedback:).

Look here

It works, but be careful.

PS. Read the first reply and Chacmool's!

Of course, just open the stylesheets (.css files on root/style) and look for something like:

TD.punquote {
    background-color: #484848;
    border: #606060;
    border-style: dashed;
    border-width: 1px
}

Just change it to suit your tastes. If you want to keep all the possible stylesheets you'll have to modify all of the files.

Well, that's a little bit more complicated :).

I just saw in some other forums I'm a user of that when turning on maintenance mode there's a field for admin login (admin only). Looks more elegant than providing a script in case you log out accidentally with maintenance mode on. It woulnd't hurt and looks (methinks) easy to implement.

Just an idea for a distant future :).

It looks like a problem linking CSS yeah. I tried too and the file is not there. Have you uploaded all the sub-folders? I cannot link to images on root/img either, that's probably the problem (or something very similar).

Mmm, the spacing, padding and so on could be slightly better, but that's easy to arrange to suit your taste, and for the rest I love it as it is :). Graphics-free, please.

One thing, I'll use this post to say something that's been on my mind for a while. The available smileys suck, big time. I don't mean there's not much variety (I understand why), they are just ugly! It's very easy to do something slightly better starting from the scratch, and it helps promote PunBB with no additions whatsoever, think about it boss ;).

[I'd try myself if I were not insanely busy...]

Wow. Terrific :). Mmm, there's no automatic way to do it, but it's feasible, in a certain way. SQLing, of course :/. It depends on what you exactly want to do. You should move all the users and all the topics/posts changing all the id's correspondingly not to lose the links between them. I'd do it under extreme necessity and with lots of care, it's very, very fragile and not trivial, not at all.

I think you should better consider alternatives.

Uhm... I wrote a long piece and now I'm not sure I get what you mean. Do you want to merge two forums on the same PunBB or to merge two different PunBBs on, say, different sites, with different users and topics, on the same PunBB?

Download the mod you mean? It doesn't work for me either, the server must be down for a while, try again later :).

But you want the chat box only on the index page of the forums? Or on all pages? Because then it should "propagate" (and I don't think that's likely to exist) or you should set up frames... or something. Uhm... maybe I don't get what you mean, a chat box to... chat? In a forum?

Okay. I won't list my favorite bands because I don't do that since I was eighteen or so, I guess I listen too much music :D. These are the albums/works I've been listening to more often (took a quick look at my DAP), rouhgly:

Bela Bartok, a certain simphony with a long name I don't remember. Damn good.
The Beatles, way too much, just way too much. Revolver, Rubber Soul and Abbey Road quite often.
Black Flag, a californian punk rock (hardcore punk according to a friend) band of the 80s. Very physical at the beginning, strangely twisted by the end, unique and always interesting.
Boards of Canada, a couple albums, just found out about them. Electronics. Great. Kind of Tangerine Dream in the 21st century but with a steady production (so far).
The Books, "The lemon of pink", one of the best albums of 2003. Electronics in spirit, quite analogue in execution, a bit tough the first time through but truly espectacular. Highly recommended.
Cave In, the last two albums, some kind of post-hardcore.
The Cinematic Orchestra, trip-hop or something like that. They recorded a soundtrack for an experimental russian movie of the 20s, "Man with a movie camera" (uh, I don't remember the name in russian right now :D) and while the album is great, strangely great because this "experiments" usually suck, the combined experience is unique. Recommended too (both).
Kraftwerk, remixes for "Aerodynamik". Not a big fan of remixes, I made an exception this time.
Menomena, "I am the fun blame monster!", possibly one of the best album names in pop history :D. Very fun, so loose and imaginative is impossible to convey with words. Bored people of the world with a certain pop sensibility, give it a try!
Mozart, Requiem. Awesome. Among the best Baroque I've heard.
Seatbelts, the OST for the anime Cowboy Bebop. Half the songs are boring, the other half very entertaining.
T. Rex, 'cause they kick ass :).

Tagging reminded me I have to check whether it is easy to change the tags, I always use spanish equivalents, what a mess :D.

PS. The Rasmus guy was gay or not in the end? (wahahahaha, I'm mean!!!)

Uhm... I don't fully understand what you mean, but in the *.tpl files there's information about the redirection screen and the header (the table on top of the forum). So to customize these screens (i.e. adding a banner or modifying the links, both at the top of the forum) you can modify these files directly.

To change the styles of links, buttons, etc, you'll have to either open some of the PHP files (can be exhausting) or play with the CSS stylesheets.
